Do You Trust Baby Products Online?

I want to order my baby things online because with my toddler and newborn it's hard to get out of the house to go shopping! Can I trust online shops and websites to buy items for my little one? Does anybody have any recommendations? (Delivery to NYC but I presume most places deliver nationwide)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Just to clarify, I do get out of the house sometimes, but a walk to the park or emergency grocery shopping is enough for me! (I do a weekly shop when husband is home and have a little time to myself) but going around a shop is a little tedious for babies so I'd rather not do it unless it's necessary.
I was thinking about clothes, bottles, diapers, worried that they'd be the wrong size, material etc. I realize I just have to read a lot of reviews and use popular sites - if it's not what I ordered I know I can send stuff back, but what's what I'm hoping to avoid! I also wanted to buy a new car seat online but that would be a lot more effort to return.
I'll try amazon because it seems to be the most popular response.
Thank you all.

My kids are 13 and 15 so online shopping wasn't quite as popular when they were in those stages. Believe me, I know it's hard!!!! I think if I had them as baby and toddler now, I'd order some of the bigger and "regularly needed" items online, such as diapers, wipes, etc. But as others have said it's important to get out of the house also. Ordering those items online would hopefully make you're visits to the store a bit easier and faster! Good luck!!! I know those first few years can be SO hard! Someday you'll look back on them though and realize they were some of the BEST times too!!!

It is super easy to order things online and I don't see what you would be concerned about that unless you were ordering off brand items and such.

At the same time... you need to get out. It is not healthy for you and your children to stay in the house, not get out and run errands, play dates, etc just because it is hard to manage at the time. You all need to get out, it is part of the children learning as well.

That said, it is also good for YOU to get out on your own for a little bit to recharge and have some me time. You need to get a sitter or hubby to watch the children a couple of hours. You need a break from the children just as much as they need an occasional break from you.

If you have no family around to help out, what about a friend where you can trade off sitting for each other or hire a sitter to to help you out on occasion.

You will all feel better and be healthier if you get out of the house together as well as on your own.

Good luck

What kinds of items are you thinking of?

I order a lot of things online. For our children (from babies up) - clothing, books, toys, even a stroller .. I used to buy a lot of things second hand online from Ebay.

I haven't bought food items but certainly almost everything else.

We've checked things out in stores, and then when I've decided what I'm looking for, we'll comparison shop online and when a better deal comes on - I'll order (online) from there.

Check the return policy if ordering online is something I'd recommend.

As for getting out - do short trips, first thing in the morning after the baby has woken up and is fed, and toddler is happy. Just bring snack and drink (and toy) for toddler to keep her happy. Start small. Do one stop - and see how it goes.

I used to do that - and then hit a park and let toddler play - then home.

Or figure out what time works best for toddler. Infant usually sleeps wherever because of car motion. Or if breastfeeding, just work around that. It's doable. Just keep it short to start :) Best to you!

that's sort of like asking 'can i trust babysitters with my kids?'

some online shops and websites are awesome. some are sketchy. just like shopping at a physical store, you have to do a little research and be prepared for some trial and error.

amazon makes returns very easy if you don't like something you order.

but better yet, pack those babies into their car seats and go to a local store (not big box) and support your local businesses. it IS harder to get out when you have two tinies, but it's very good for everyone.

Yes. why wouldn't I? I'm not buying some "off-brand", I'm buying what I want and need.

I understand how you feel. However, you're putting way to much emphasis on it being "hard" and not just getting it done. It's a mentality thing. You can do it. You just don't want to. You're thinking of all of the what if's. Well, this is life. She needs to get out. You need to get out. The fresh air will do you good and her too.

Make a list of what you want. Call ahead to find out if you purchase large items if they deliver.

Welcome to mamapedia! Congratulations on your new baby.

It's NOT hard to get out of the house and go shopping. You really need to stop thinking that way and just do it. GO SHOPPING.

When I buy on-line for delivery? I buy from my grocery store or Amazon.
If I am looking for toys and such? I buy from many places - ebay, Amazon, Wal-Mart, Target, etc.

You're WWWAAAAAYYY over thinking things and being a tad paranoid. Get your baby in a stroller and GO shopping. YOU CAN DO THIS.

What's hard about getting a baby sitter so you can go run some errands without taking the kids with you?

I think between Babies R Us, Hannah Andersen, and Amazon you pretty much can have anything you want delivered to you but it would be good for you to get out of the house for a few hours.
Eventually you will be taking the kids with you but in the mean time get a relative or find a baby sitter so you can have a few hours to get things done, see a movie, get to a doctors appointment, etc.

I used amazon to get baby/toddler stuff. We don't live near any shopping, so we have a prime membership and get free shipping. It worked great.

You can order just about anything you need online. Baby stuff is everywhere.
If you like to shop in person then do it one night a week while your husband is at home. I did that when mine were little because the stores were quieter in the evening and I liked having an hour or two to myself.

I use Amazon all the time, and I would absolutely trust them for baby products.

I would also trust Walmart.com and Target.com. I've ordered from both of them in the past. Their prices are often (but not always) higher than Amazon, but you have the added benefit of being able to go directly to the store if you have any problems.

I myself didn't order much at all online when my kids were tiny because it was 10-14 years ago, however we certainly do order more things online now and I'd probably do a bit more now. However, I agree with the responses which point out that while it may be a hassle to get out, it is MUCH better for everyone if you do. Have you noticed that fussy kids often stop fussing immediately once they are outdoors, or any different environment? I also know that I feel better whenever I get out of my usual routine of home, office, car, etc. So you may want to figure out the necessary arrangements so you can go to the stores, with or without the kiddos.
