Do You Shop Around?

So im in the market for a new swing like TODAY! Ours kicked the bucket and this isnt something I can live without. I looked at Targets website to see what they have, then I looked at walmart. Some are cheaper at Walmart, some are more expensive. I have a coupon from babies r us, so I looked at that website to see if the $10 off coupon was even worth the gas to get there. Their same swings are $20-30 more than Target and Walmarts! Looks like I will just stay close and check out Target and Walmart. Do you shop around when buying something, or do you just go buy it? My sister says I spend way too much time on stuff like this, but hey I like to save money!

What can I do next?

I ALWAYS shop around for everything that I buy because I frankly hate to waste money. I think the internet is the greatest invention ever simply for this reason alone. And if you can get it less the tax and many times free shipping -- now that's a savings! I have a feeling that even if I were very wealthy, I would still shop around. Why spend more money for something than you have to?

I shop around too. But if it starts to become time consuming then I have to tell myself to stop & make a decision.

I shop around to a degree, but if I have the choice, I will support a local small business. I love saving money too but I despise Wal-Mart! :)

I shop around, but try to do it efficiently by going to www.PriceGrabber.com to find the best deal. I found this one that was pretty awesome (includes the plug-in option to save on batteries) http://www.walmart.com/ip/Fisher-Price-Cradle-Swing-Zen-C...

We were able to save $1200 on our 65" LCD tv by finding the best deal on that site. We found what we wanted at Circuit City, but since they were going out of biz we didn't want to buy from them, so we went to Best Buy and got them to match that price.

(I am assuming that you meant baby swing, since you didn't say swingset and that you need it today.)

I ALWAYS shop around.

If I were buying a swing set again, I'd look on Craig's list. Often you can get one on Craing's list for FREE. That's worth driving for.

Good luck to you and yours.

Why don't you look on Craigslist and see if anyone in your area is giving one away for free. My cousin found one and it was a very very nice one-I couldn't believe they just gave it away for free! The deal was though that they had to come by and take it apart and then of course haul it away and then set it back up at their house but when you get it for FREE who cares!!!

LOL-but to answer your question. Yes I absolutely shop around for the best deal....but I am also on the lines of extreme couponing-so says my hubby but I still ain't figured out how to get $600.00 worth of groceries and only walk out paying like $30.00??????? That is why I love love my smartphone too. I can scan the barcode and see if someone else has it cheaper while I am right there at the store!

We shop around for months, and even years for some purchases. My husband is very good with our money, so he will find the best deal for something almost without fail. For a swing, unless we really needed it right away, we would probably visit 8 stores and plenty of online websites before making the purchase. I would prefer to do less, but I have to admit, he saves us money!! My husband is much more efficient at it than I am. And apparently more patient.

We have been shopping for a house for 3 years now. My lovely husband simply isn't ready yet. Car purchases take years as well before we pull the trigger. Not only to find the best deal, but to save up for a big down payment or pay for the car in full.

Good luck!

I always shop around. Do you mean a swing for a swing set or like a baby swing? Have you checked out Home Depot? They usually carry parts for swing sets and play houses.

If your sister has the money to not shop around.. good for her. However it is in our woman's nature to be frugal. We are made that way. So yes we shop around with as much time that is allowed.

Golly, I wish I could spend the time to comparison shop. I used to, before I had kids. But the reality is, I'm a FT working mom; my husband travels often for his job... which means I'm often playing the 'single mom': juggling mommyhood, work and personal needs simultaneously without another adult to help. My husband complains that I tend to spend too much, but more often than not I just need to 'get it done' and move on the the next task--Because there are only 2 days in a weekend and then I'm back at work. There are days that its not worth saving $20... or $50... And sometimes its not even worth $100...

Depends on the item. If it was a pricey item, then sure! I think it's smart to hop online and spend a few minutes finding out who has what so you end up saving time and gas.

It depends on what it is and the cost of it. Stuff like a swing (I am considering individual swings..like infant ones or kid ones, not the full swingset, etc), I am used to penny pinching since I often buy those items for my home daycare with Grant money...every penny counts...shipping costs, free shipping, can I go buy it close by (loads of options near me), all factor in.

Other stuff I just like a certain brand or store so I watch for a sale or coupon % offs. I love Kohls Simply Vera Wang..but at regular prices I can not buy it..but its often on sale and I get the coupons for using with our store charge card (only store card we have).

Other stuff I have found a price I can live with. Like wipes. I am super picky about them...I do home daycare so I use a TON of them. I only like Huggies with a scent to them. Amazon, with the "subscribe and save" discount of 15%, along with the "mom club" thing (whatever its called), is another 15%...plus free shipping and a set arrangement to ship them at intervals (every month for me)...I get them 30% Amazons price, free shipping and they just show up at my door every month (an 8pk is just over $15. A price I can live with not to go get them. Most stores around here only carry the unscented ones. I hate those..picky, I know.)

Happy shopping!

For "larger" purchases I do shop around. Its so easy to compare prices online for 15 minutes. So if I save $10 or more for 15 min of time its worth it. Plus Im all for saving on gas too. I work FT outside the home so spending 5 hours searching for sales instead of working overtime isn't worthwhile for me. So if the savings are equivalent to earning $40/ hr its time well spent.

Sometimes yes and sometimes no. In a situation like yours I might just go out and buy something I knew to be good but maybe not spend a ton of time comparing prices. Each store has different models, newer, older, fancier, whatever and sometimes it can be confusing. Swings are expensive but honestly, you have a limited time to use them, so I figure that even if I get one that isn't exactly what I envisioned then I'm okay with it for a few months. We did just buy a washer and dryer and I surprised myself with being a little choosier than normal and it took us a while to find one! ;) I do look at reviews though, that helps me! Good luck!
