On the outside and the waiting, well its scary! But, they have the best docs around! My sistet was in a bad car wreck in 06 and they were the nicest people. We were all scared to death and they gave us updates constantly and they even pulled me a chair in triage so I could sit with her. I've always heard bad things but im here to tell you the medical care is top notch. Childrens is inside parkland also. You will be in good hands mama. Praying for a quick recovery!
Children's Medical generally handles the kids from Parkland but not always. Both of my kids have had brain surgery and I would not recommend CMC for that - ever. Depending on what the surgery is for I might be able to help you and depending on your insurance. I currently take my daughter to neurology at Cook Childrens in Fort Worth - both had neurosurgery in UTMB Galveston as that was where the best surgeon was. I am more than happy to try to help but need more information.
Look into Children's Medical Center in Dallas or Plano.
Parkland is the county hospital of the area and accepts all patients insurance or not. You are going to get a wide variety of experiences depending on the department and the reason for a visit. My mom went to Parkland for a battery of tests and stay in patient and they were fantastic but overall they do not have the best ratings in the area. I do agree that maybe you should look into a children's hospital for this procedure. Children's Medical Center Dallas takes all children patients regardless of insurance status as well but found they are on generally anyone's insurance plan. I have nothing against Parkland but I have heard bad things as well as good. Definitely do some more research before making a final decision.
My mother had her knee replaced there and they were great. Someone stayed with her at all times, but the care was good and the staff were fabulous. Good luck, A.

Parkland gets a bad rap because it's a county hospital. However, it is well known to be one of the best hospitals around for ER and burns. It's a teaching hospital as well.
I went through the urgent care and emergency room. I found it to be a long wait, but the drs were wonderful. It was cramped, stinky, annoying, felt like I was at the welfare office, but, the care I recieved was good. I'm sure they have top notch surgeons. And you won't be subjected to the wait of an er. There are sites where you can check the credentials of individual drs and patient reviews. I would try to find out who is going to be performing the surgery and look up those drs.
Parkland is a county hospital, but they are the best for trauma. Children's Medical Center is physically attached to Parkland and often handles these sorts of issues with children. You will get A+ doctors at Parkland, but you won't be that comfortable. Children's is also a country hospital and has excellent, excellent care for kids regardless of insurance.
The doctors are in general great, but the hospital itself is awful. Is there a children's hospital, that's in your network? There are so many in the Dallas Metroplex.
Parkland is a trauma hospital, and it's a county hospital. My sister got hit by a drunk driver when she was pregnant in Dallas and was taken to Parkland. She ended up being really high risk, so she spent the remainder of her pregnancy there. While her care was fine, they are very short staffed. She had to wait forever for anything. It's dirty, scary sometimes, and A LOT of people go there for drug programs they have in the hospital. I would imagine your daughter would be so much more comfortable at a children's hospital. I don't want to scare you, because the doctors really are good.
No personal experience but I would look into Children's Dallas or Cook Children's in Fort Worth. They don't turn you away regardless of your ability to pay (these are the ones they're raising $$ for every year with that Forrester's telethon on KVIL each Christmastime).
Kids are not little adults, and at least at one of these hospitals there are pediatric specialists working on kids.
I wouldnt recommend it unless you were burned severly. You didnt say how old your daughter is but I would find a children's hospital or even try Scottish Rite.
There has been a series of articles about the problems at Parkland in the Dallas Morning News. You could do a search on DMN's website and find them. They are working on improvements and building a new hospital, but none of this would be resolved by the time your daughter needs help.
Not to get you completely worried, but this is an honest thing we saw on the news not long ago...They were reporting that Parkland had horrible ratings, wait times were the worst in the metro, OSHA has issued warnings against certain areas being dirty (they didn't mention what, for all I know it could have been the staff lounge). Ever since that story, I cringe at the thought of ever having to go there.
However, that doesn't mean the doctor caring for your child isn't excellent. If you do end up there, make sure you look up the doctors ratings and if any malpractice suits have ever been filed against them. Is Parkland the only other option you have in the DFW area??
