G.B.
Just remember to clean it every few months and keep it running all the time. That way you won't start it up right before a meal and dust bunnies fall off into everything. SO keep it clean and keep it running.
Just curious if anyone has one. Its not a common amenity around here. I have ceiling fans everywhere else in the house and its getting so hot here that I'm tempted to add a fan to the dining room too.
omg Christy Lee that is an awesome fan. I might get it!
lol Jane...I think you meant to say "over my dead body there will be a ceiling fan in my dining room"? lol
yes Gamma G...I promise I will dust it.

We do, but it only gets used when it's super hot out, or when we're not eating in the dining room but we have all the ceiling fans in the house on.
I used to in my old house. It was great. But it did blow paper napkins around!
I have one here in every room but the formal dining room.
I had one installed in the kitchen a couple yrs ago.
Every new one we put in, we add a remote to the kit. So handy!
Not in our new house, but yes, it our old one.
The new house has a chandelier. I'm thinking of getting a fandelier... So nifty and beautiful. The fan is INSIDE it. My bestie has one and I'm so envious. http://www.lightingandlocks.com/14-280-fd-56.html
I had one in an apartment I had and it cooled off the food too fast. True! :)
No, and also not in the kitchen either.
I like my food hot.
At my inlaws lake house they have one over the table, but we turn it off during meals and only use it for when we play cards, games or are just visiting around the table.
Not in our formal dining room, but we do have one in our breakfast nook. If you use the dining room often enough, I'd go with the comfort of a ceiling fan. If it is only used on rare occassions, I'd skip it.
I love ceiling fans, even if they aren't considered tasteful. We have one in each bedroom.
No, small chandelier.
My mom does though--cools the food off! Lol
We do not have a formal dining room. But we did install on in the dining area. Our dining area was just so miserably hot during meals. We were reluctant, because you don't see it too often. And we have a great room, so the living dining and kitchen areas are basically one large room. We thought it might look funny. It looks fine and it is so nice to no longer sweat through dinner!
nope, not in the REAL dining room. We have one in our eating area in the kitchen, and I love it there.
Yes we do but our dining room is not a formal area where a chandelier would be expected.
It's the only part of the house that does have a ceiling fan. It's also the hottest part of the house (no central air).
By dining room do you mean a formal dining room or a breakfast room? We have a ceiling fan in our breakfast room because it is part of the kitchen and just gets too damn hot.
Our dining room we do not because it isn't necessary. If I was I would consider that fan Christy spoke of.
I have one and use it all the time EXCEPT when I eat. Its just seems unsanitary and also it cools the food too quickly.
No.not even in my kitchen.
A. - nope. Just a nice light fixture.
Only room we have a ceiling fan in is the master bedroom.
We have a nice chandelier in the formal dining room and a nice light fixture in the formal living area...... These areas are kept very formal.
We do have ceiling fans in all 4 bedrooms, family room, breakfast area and game room. We use them all the time.
absolutely not. We live in a temperate climate, but no a.c. so we do rely heavily on fans to keep cool in the summer. Ceiling fans are a necessary evil. As it is, fans with lights are hideous- just hideous- There are no attractive light/ fan combos out there, I've looked. Even if your willing to spend $800 on a fixture, they still are awkward bulky contraptions. I will have one lovely decorative fixture in my house if it kills me and that room is my dinning room.
Yes, but it came with the house. I rarely turn it on except on girls nights. I have to climb on the kitchen table to dust it.
Ooh.. I wish. I really have never quite understood it. Sitting down to eat is one of the times that I do NOT want to be hot. Hot food, trying to eat... ummm NO. Especially if I've been in the kitchen with a hot oven/stove going!
However, instead, what is much more expected/typical is a huge light fixture with a half a bajillion bulbs glowing into the multiple hundreds of watts (when you total them all up), that is enough to cook a full size cake as if you stuck it in an easy bake oven.
I would LOVE to stick a ceiling fan in my dining room (and my breakfast room), but I have never seen it done. And the last unconventional thing we did in a house seemed to slow down selling it when the time came.
Nice idea, though. I can dream...

oh.. every other room in the house (except the bathroom and kitchen, and I kinda wish there was one in there) has a ceiling fan with a wall switch. Including the outside patio by the pool. I'd be afraid to put one in the kitchen, just because it would likely end up with grease on the blades and that is just gross (and hard to clean without ruining the balance on the fan).
No, I don't, nor in the kitchen, but I have fans in every other room. My parents have fans in their kitchen, which I love because it gets mighty hot cooking up a big meal. I wouldn't want a fan on while I was sitting down to dinner, but if you used the dining room for other things, it could definitely work.
I have one in the kitchen but not the dining room.
Yes, and I use a Norwex dusting glove to dust it. (The dust sticks to the glove and doesn't get all over the table.)
I do and I can't wait to get rid of it. Its broken and old, and ugly. The room needs a fan, though, because the light is so hot. Its replacement wont be :)
I live in WA state.
We would look silly with a ceiling fan :)
Most houses on this side of the mountains don't even have AC.
No.
Our old house had one in the dining room & it was a pain.
Kids couldn't do their homework. It was tied to the light. Husb finally
put in just a light.
This house doesn't have one. Just a nice light.
Buy longer fan blades and well try not to move around as much, you will cool down faster.
My daughter and her family have a ceiling fan over their dining room table. It does help to keep us cool while we eat.
There are good looking ceiling fans if you shop at a lighting store. The ones at discount stores are more functional than pretty. So why would having a ceiling fan in the dining room not be acceptable?
