Yes, I've had it for many years. IMO it is one of the last real bargains left in the world. We have used it many many times, and it pays for itself in one use.

Also there are many services that offer discounts with a AAA card.

I think my membership runs maybe $75 or $80 per year for just me. The coverage covers you wherever you are and whatever car you're in as long as you show ID when the service person gets there. Absolutely worth every penny. Great peace of mind when I'm driving somewhere alone at night - which I do often for my home business. Great discounts at stores, hotels, services, etc.

We have a AAA Plus membership.
100 miles of free towing has come in handy on more than one occasion - comes with the Plus membership.
I've belonged to AAA since I first got my drivers license (1978).
We also love their travel services, discounts, travelers checks, Trip Ticks, maps and attraction books.

I have the plus membership, and it has paid off big time! I originally just got the basic plan when I switched our homeowners and vehicales over, by me spending $27 a year I was able to save an additional % of my rates. So right there it paid for the yearly membership. Then we decided to get life insurance through them, and again saved us $$$. I finally had to use my road side assistance last year when truck got stuck in a huge snow storm and was half in the ditch, half on the road. I was 3 miles from my house and found out that the basic plan only covered like 5 miles. The I upgraded to the plus in April 2011 and that is like $75 a year. Well my motor blew in my van 4th of July!! They covered 100 miles (we were 90 away from home) and since it was a holiday we didnt have to pay any outrageous fees! With having children this is a must have expense. Plus you get extra discounts on hotels, stores etc.

A couple month ago they were offering a huge special on groupon, but you had to be a new member but it was 60% off!!! :(

When I had my fist car I had AAA when that car got older. It was great but they do take an extremely long time for their tow trucks to get to you which is nerve racking.

I actually enjoyed their travel offerings. That was the best. I don't have a car of my own so I don't have AAA.

I have it through my auto insurance and I tell you it's a lifesaver and absolutely necessary for me! Embarrassingly I have locked my keys in my car countless times due to many things but they are always friendly and send someone out promptly to help me.

Also when the car has broken down, we just called the insurance company and they again promptly had someone come help us out.

I will always have this feature on my auto insurance, and it's cheap too!

If you have kids then I would definitely recommend something like this, because you just NEVER know when you will need help!

I don't have it b/c I get something similar (but A LOT cheaper) through my car insurance, Geico. They provide all the same things like towing or helping get into your locked car. They don't provide maps or whatever else AAA does. It costs me $10/year. I'm not sure what else AAA does for you, but all I want is to know that if something happens when I'm out on the road someone (Geico) will come help me immediately. I've used it twice and they've been very speedy! Something to think about - you might find the same type of service but cheaper elsewhere.

I have a AAA membership but I don't specifically live in MI. Mine has been a lifesaver on more than one occasion. Once, as we were driving with a realtor in her car, she got a flat, even though she didn't have a membership, we did and they came out and helped us. I also love all the places I get discounts at by flashing it. I get discounts at all sorts of stores, especially outlet malls. I saved huge when I got a AAA discount through Lenscrafters a few months back, with the money it saved me on new eyeglasses, it paid for itself on that one transaction! I'm a forever AAA member, for sure!

Yes. When renewal time comes around I sometimes ask myself this same question and then sure enough something happens where I need it. I only buy the basic membership figuring that if I do need towed I will turn the balance into my auto insurance for reimbursement.

Another perk is that it gives discounts on hotel rooms and free map and tour books.

It's terrific and well worth the cost -- which is usually less than just one tow would cost you. Remember, the "roadside assistance" covers not just breakdowns while you're on the road, but even in your own driveway; AAA came to unlock my car when I locked my keys inside it while at home, and AAA came to tow me to my nearest garage when I couldn't start my car at home. And yes, they've helped out with tows while away from home over the years as well. The peace of mind is great. And they always come so quickly, at least in our area. They always ask "Are you alone? Are you in a place where you feel safe?" too -- a question I really appreciate. If you say you are in an area you don't consider safe or if you feel threatened, my understanding is that they can ask police to come or will try to get the tow truck to you faster. I would recommend it. Do remember that the tow operators who come are independent contractors, so some may be more polite or better than others, but for me, it's always been a positive thing to have.

IMO, it paid for itself when I was 6 mo. pregnant and stuck with a flat tire on the highway. It also helped me out when my battery died, and we used it to rent cars with Hertz.

My stepson has something through his phone plan and it takes for.ev.er and costs more per tow.

AAA just got me a 30% discount on my new glasses and that discount was better than what they offered in the store. It also helped me out the 2 times I had a flat tire.

It's like 35$ per year - I've used it a few times for road side assistance (my battery died) ... I mainly use it for discounts at hotels. Also one of my favorite clothing stores (New York & Co) gives you a 15% of discount with your AAA membership. You get discounts at tons of places. Oh also theme park tickets, etc.

We have it - we're in TX. My car is 11 years old, and I have a 5 year old, so I would not want to be stuck without help. It's worth it if you need it just once.

I have had it for two years and it is well worth it! I got it after my neighbors had a flat in the middle of nowhere and were back on the road after a AAA visit in less than an hour.

I drive several hours to visit family at times, and for me it's extra protection when I'm somewhere alone. I've had to call them twice now (my car is older and had a battery issue, and a starter issue) and it more than paid for itself with those incidents.

We've had it for many years. My daughter is also an outstanding AAA employee. If you live in Southern California, her voice would be one of the comforting people you talk with when you need help fast.

We've just about always had a car break down at least once per year. We've had some dead batteries and other unknown problems.

YES!

I locked my keys in the car and they saved my butt.

Just one tow alone will pay for the membership. Well worth the money.

Yes, I have a membership (since 97). Just in case of a tire issue (even though I can change it myself)! I work in downtown Detroit, and it is not safe.

I was thinking about cancelling it last summer...I purchased the twin steering wheel lock and the ____@____.com thing broke on my steering wheel (lock froze and broke)! I called AAA and they did not cover this issue. Was beyond PO'D! So I had to wait (mind you in the middle of a downtown parking lot) for my step dad and son to get off of work (1 1/2) and have them bring down bolt cutters.

Both of my kids have a membership, one always has trouble with his mustang (gets it towed all the time) and my oldest seems to have a lot of flats!!! They both were able to pay off the fees fast!!!

We have two 1997 cars that have a lot of miles on them, and we have used our Gold membership more than enough to pay for the cards. We also put our college-aged son on our membership even though he does not yet drive. If he was in a car that broke down, even if it was a buddy's car, it would be covered. Peace of mind!

I've had AAA for years, but now our auto insurance offers roadside assistance, and it's impossible for me to lock my keys in my car, so I am discontinuing it. I do like the magazine, and they have some great tips on vacations, but there's nothing that I save a ton of money on or anything by having a AAA membership. I've found the hotel and ticket savings to be fairly negligible.
