Yes! I do that. I have three jars of salsa in the fridge right now. Why? Because I'm a ding dong, that's why.
Today, at the grocery store I grabbed the OJ and milk. Lingered next to the butter for a minute. Hmmm, it's not on my list. Still, better safe then sorry, so I get a pound.
Then at home putting away groceries, I see that there is already a full pound of butter in the fridge. No matter, I'll just stick in the freezer. Uh, next to the THREE POUNDS OF BUTTER THAT ARE ALREADY IN THERE TOO! Duh.
But wait, it gets better!!
Now, here's what happens. I KNOW I've already got enough butter for the entire neighborhood, so I'll REMEMBER for the next couple weeks/months that I don't NEED any damn butter, and THAT's why it's NOT on the list!
So I'll get used to NOT buying butter, NOT putting it on the list, and NOT putting it away. Then it'll take me a few weeks/months to get used to putting it on the list, buying it again! And we'll actually be running OUT of butter regularly. Until the wind changes again, and I'm back to the Butter Hoarding Phase.
This also happens with toothpaste, T paper, laundry soap, deo, etc. A couple months ago, it took me TWO weeks of being reminded by my daughter that SHE NEEDS RAZORS to remember to put them on the list (and being put on the list is STILL no guarantee I'll actually GET them), now we have 5 packages of the suckers in the bathroom!
So, anyone else like a goldfish sometimes?
:)

Unfortunately I usually never have extra anything. Today I decided that instead of half way through showering, getting out, and going to the kids bathroom to steal their shampoo, I was gonna go ahead and get me some today.
Went to the store because we needed waffles and milk too. Still, didnt get the shampo!!
But I did get a good deal on jammies!!! : /
Oh. gawd.
Costco. Toilet. Paper.
Almost 18mo without needing to buy toilet paper at the store guaranteed almost a solid moth of using kleenex, papertowels, babywipes, etc. I just COULDN'T remember to buy it.
I shop at Costco, couldn't remember if I got butter the last time I was there so I grabbed some butter because it would be a fate worse than death to run out of butter. So that four pack sits next to the other four pack that apparently I did remember to buy. There is also another pound of butter left from the pack before.
Butter is important! :)
My husband and I end up picking the OPPOSITE kind of milk that we need.
Now we have two gallons of whole milk and almost no skim.
I just used my last cube of butter this morning. It was on my list when I shopped on Thursday, yet never hit my basket.
Send me some :)

Butter is a BIG one for me...lol
With holidays...and baking upon me...I took advantage of a sale.
Pete came up from basement freezer with a 'plethora' of butter from a former sale....
LOTS of butter.
Even with something ON a list these days, I manage to forget...lol
So it is 'feast or famine' around here for some items...TP...PT...toothpaste...shampoo...ETC
*sigh*
Best Luck!
(and glad to know I am NOT alone!)
Michele/cat
that's so cute. put on the list - NO BUTTER!!! i have had to do that before lol. it works! :o)
glad i'm not the only one ;)
We have 3 BIG jars of chicken cubes that you put in soup or make soup out of, REALLY....3 JARS! And I'm the one that buys groceries, WTH. You're not alone.
Haha, yep, I do that too--with Ranch dressing ;-)
How did I stop doing that? I write on my list "DO NOT BUY DRESSING"
eta: What do I forget? Lightbulbs!! In my family room we have 6 recessed lights that are out, 2 out in the kitchen, 4 chandelier bulbs, and 2 bathroom lights...Hmmm, I finally counted them all! Hopefully that'll help me remember to actually BUY them tomorrow when I go out!
You sound like me.
I do that with butter.
With hand soap.
With body soap.
With shampoo.
With Pine Sol
With Listerine
With toothpaste.
Mind you, I get these things when I see sales.
I don't have to buy these for awhile.
FUNNY!
.
I wish you lived closer because I would TOTALLY ask to borrow a pound of butter from your stash! :)
And to answer your question, RICE. I have a TON of rice in my cupboard!
We are butter-soul mates, Theresa!
I tend to stack them in the freezer as well.
Funny thing, I don't bake that much and for every day, I use the Land O Lakes Light spreadable butter.
Hmmmmmmm.....makes no sense.
I used to do this until I started mounting those post-it note grocery list pads in the bathroom and kitchen. I and the rest of the family write down things as soon as we notice it getting low and before they run out so when it's grocery day, I run around and round up the lists and take them with me to the store. Seldom now, do I run out or get too much of stuff unless I want it.
I've been doing that with bread lately. I'll buy extra when it's on sale and put it in the freezer. So when I'm at the store I remember half a loaf in the cabinet and buy more bread only to remember later that there's more in the freezer!
Guilty. My products of choice are minced garlic, red beans, salad dressing and coffee.
You would laugh at the number of cans of Ranch style Beans I have in my pantry right now, and guess what...in a month I will go for a can and I'll be out....happens to me all the time :) I call it Mommy Brain!
I have finally trained all the housemembers to put items they need or use up (from the kitchen, etc) on a memo board on the fridge....
I know I won't remember if someone says... "Hey, we're out of vanilla!" or whatever it is.....
Each week, before I go to the store, I check the memo board, write things down, ask others what is needed, check the pantry, etc....
I write a grocery list, and half the time I end up leaving it at home!
Start training them that if they need something, they need to write it on your list.
LOL! i do it with laundry soap and make up remover...double offender!!!!
O yes...it's one extreme or the other! Either we're out and keep forgetting to buy it or we still have some and both hubs AND I will pick something up (mustard, coffee, ice...you name and we've doubled up on it!)
My most recent one...I bought a Christmas table cloth (the vinyl ones...I go through a lot of em since I have kids all day!) Well, went to get out my decorations and see a new one sitting on the shelf...yay, I have 2! Open up the tub, only to find TWO MORE in there! Good thing, since 1st day on the table, a 2 yr old colored all over it and it now has a hole in it! So, stocking up isn't always bad...and maybe you have all that butter because subconsciously, you want to BAKE!!! :)
Yep, I do that too. Lately it has been Ramen noodles (my son loves chicken soup).
Um... We are the same person. Haha! :)
On the bright side, you have lots of holiday baking to do. Perhaps find recipes that include a lot of butter??
I do that with salad dressing sometimes. I have two bottles on the shelf and one in the fridge, all the same kind of course.
My dad's the worst. I think they have 10 cans of Spray Pam and probably 12 bottles of Tabasco.
Be glad that butter freezes well and that it'll eventually get used. :)
Nope, not me - never. :P
yep. Dont look under my bathroom sink bc you will find a years worth of darn near everything.im the oh look its on sell well better get it before price goes back up even though we have plenty at home it will save us money bc we wont need to buy any for a while then 2 weeks later oh well lets pick some up just in case. ha ha ha But if any one ever needs toilet paper tooth paste, tampons, hand soap neosporin bandaids....... i got spare lol
Yes...Yes...Yes...oh wait...did I answer that question or not? LOL I do stuff like this all the time! I feel your pain. :)
I have to have a list!! Im such a idiot when it comes to remembering stuff like that! Mine is sugar!! I swear I've got 10 bags of it and I don't use it that much. You are not alone :)
yes...lol
There was a time, not so long ago, when we had 5 boxes of press and seal in the cabinet. :)
Do it all the time. One time I ended up with 12 jars of spaghetti sauce. But another thing that happens is that I forget the one major item that I had gone to the store for and that's even while it's on the list! So yeah, that's always so much fun as well.
Ditto here.
Anytime I actually run out of some 'necessary' product...I seem to overbuy for awhile, then I'm back to being out of stock, then too much...I seem to err on the too much side too often. It could be anything from Bananas to paper towels, especially lotion and tea.
Great explanation of a common problem I'm sure.
Oh yes and my husband is worse then I am. At one point we had 6 little jars of nutmeg. Why? Because my husband's stuffed shells recipe calls for 1/4 tsp of nutmeg. So every time he made the shells he got a jar of nutmeg.
I will buy tons of toilet paper every week b/c I think we are low, and my husband will say STOP BUYING TOILET PAPER!
So, when we finally DO run out, I forget to buy it b/c I keep thinking "Don't buy it, you ALWAYS buy it, we have too much!".
That is why I have to check my stock on certain things when making my grocery list. I do the same thing with green beans and a few other items. Like, for a few months we will have tons of boxes of contact solution, then we will run out and I have to run to the store at midnight to buy solution to put our contacts in!
Hhhhmmmm.....you can NEVER have too much butter! I think I have 4-6 boxes in the freezer at all times. But I don't really run into this, I tend to not write a list and then I wander the isles and buy whats on sales, even if I know I have it at home because...well...we will eat it and it won't go to waste! Now, I'm FAR from being those extreme shoppers that have 18 cases of TP because it was free...although if I was smart enough to do that, I just might! But I do like to load up on the same things we use and eat over and over when I find it on sale. In fact, my favorite canned chili is normally $1.99 per can, I have not bought it forever because I refuse to pay that much for it when "back in the day" it was less than a dollar a can...BUT, right now in my store its on sale for .88 per can! So we bought 50 cans... So I have issues, but not the same ones you do! LOLOLOLOL!!!!
Absolutely :).
I'll not find it in the kitchen so when I go to put things in the garage refrigerator and find multiples...you're not alone!
Yeah - right now it's pickles for me :)
LOL! Yes! Only I get my butter at Costco, so we're talking 12 lbs instead of 3!
