Do You Care What You Look like down There?

When you were pregnant did you still keep a manicured look down there? I care what I look like, but man, as my belly protrudes, it's sure getting hard to shave and see (even care for that matter) what it looks like. Just curious who kept up the trimmings and who just said I don't care right now.

Pamela Raven & son: Are you always this nasty?? This was a VERY simple question! Where in the hell did you get that I have OCD and a pubic hair phobia?? How strange you are, and by reading some of your other comments, I see that yes, you are nasty a lot!!

What can I do next?

I couldn't care less what it looks like. The only reason I trim at all is because my husband loves to give me cunnilingus, I love getting it, and he says that he prefers that sex and flossing be separate activities.

I think it is generational. Pretty much all of my girlfriends shave or wax, or at the very least keep themselves trimmed very short. I'm 30.

I tried to keep up with it when I was pg, but when I couldn't reach/see anymore, I gave up and just shaved the bikini line the best I could.

Nope, I didn't. But, in all honesty, I really don't care most of the time. I trim if I'm going to be in a bathing suit, or when the bush is becoming a jungle. Having pubic hair, doesn't make me feel more or less sexy (though, completely shaved pubic areas aren't MY cup of tea), and my husband isn't bothered by pubic hair either. If it's not actually getting in the way of...things, or popping out while swimming, trimming is not where I choose to spend my aesthetic/beautifying time.

I always cared. I couldn't always REACH.

Towards the end I started waxing (LOVE waxing, just can't really justify the expense). Sigh. I'd had a waxing appt for the day AFTER my son was born and I was over due to get waxed. Granted, I was in enough pain I didn't give a rip at the time, but it was grand central station in our birthing room (if I ever had another baby I'd "elope").

TMI to follow:

Especially with all the blood for the next several weeks (and not being able to use tampons) I REALLY wish I'd made that waxing appointment. Adding insult to injury... having your vajayjay glued together with dried blood caked in the hair in the morning is just one. more. thing. to have to deal with that I really rather would not have. Not to mention throughout the day having to wet wipe, and wet wipe, and wet wipe... it's just plain annoying. I had a septic tank at the time, so I couldn't even flush them (flushable ones, of course). What do you DO with all those wipes? Stink up the bathroom? Ziplock bag? On zero sleep I'm supposed to also be dealing with THIS??? Ugh. I trimmed as well as I could once I could reach again, but it took over a week before I was able to.

Growing up, none of my friends shaved, plus being European, it was not seen over there too much - now it is, and seeing as I live in Texas I do trim it for bathing purposes. My hubby doesn't care if it's bushy, or non bushy, so mostly. It's bushy.

I didn't bother because I didn't have the energy to deal. I did with both my kids though got waxed just before birth. I did not want to be able to see and not like it (once baby was out) and also not be able to deal with it. My waxer was like you don't know how many about to pop (yeah, she's in her 20s) mom I get in here, I hope no one goes into labor on me. Good luck and congrats!!

Absolutely! I may not have done as um, precise, of a job, but who wants to look at that all "not taken care of"?! I just looked in the mirror or went by memory....

Lots of my girlfriends got waxed down there during their latter months of pregnancy. Now, I never went that far.

Mum 4 ever - I think it may be a generational thing....my friends and I all wax and some are dark and hairy, some are not. Ages range from 27-32.

Out of sight, out of mind, I say! LOL

No, once I couldn't see down there anymore, I figured I'd rather be unkempt than try to injure my parts by taking care of it without being able see it. As long as it's washed and clean, who cares? There's enough to worry about during pregnancy without adding that.

Funny isn't it how we feel about ourselves when we are prego...with my first daughter I didn't care...with my second pregnancy my oldest was taking swim lessons and I was the only one willing to swim with her since an adult had to be in the pool too. So my darling hubby, the wonderful man he is, waxed me down there so I wouldn't be hairy in the pool. LOL So, I think it is your preference. If you don't have a reason to shave, then don't worry about it. Who knows your hubby might enjoy doing it for you, mine even did my legs for both pregnancies. Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy and don't fret the little things. You are still beautiful!! Good luck and God Bless!

I kept it trimmed. I'd usually did it while taking a bath, which made it easier to see and reach.

I think it's generational. I have light, not very thick hair, but I hate when it is long. I just feel cleaner and fresher when it is short and trimmed around the edges.

Sorry if Im repeating or this is TMI:

I would at least trim it up very short before you give birth. If you can't reach and don't feel comfortable doing it with a mirror, ask your partner or make an appt. w/a professional. You will have SO much blood coming out after you give birth. The last thing you want is it all dried up in the hair when you get up in the morning. It will hurt and it will be a pain (literally ) to deal with. Also, you'll feel alot cleaner which is a big plus considering what's going on "down there" :)

I just have to ask after reading all the posts.....is this a younger generational thing to shave or wax or care how much pubic hair there is????

Or is this from darker haired women who grow bushels of hair???

I never cared, but there's not much to care about...I will trim the sides a little in the summer so my curly blonde hairs are not protruding outside the bathing suit.

I couldn't care less. LOL! I completely let it go... my doctor didn't say one word to me, no weird looks or anything either... and I sure as sugar didn't get shaved by anyone at the hospital!!! (I didn't get trimmed either... I think it depends on the hospital...) Honestly, I don't think they care too much. Whatever your situation is 'down there', I'm sure they have seen worse. :P And really, it wasn't that hard to keep clean afterward. I had that little water bottle that I sprayed water (which I guess you are told to do anyway...) and I would wipe, and that was that. After a couple weeks went by and I was brave enough (and able to stay awake long enough) to mess around with that area, I got it back under control.

And yes most Dr's shave you when it's time but when they did it with my first there was no shave cream or anything, dry junk disposable razor which left me with sore & painfull bumps for weeks....do it your self (or your hubby) before its time if you can.

I cared. For me it's more comfortable to keep it neat and trimmed.
I guess I had an advantage though...I have always been chunky and have always gone on feeling for it to shave it. Almost like brail (lol that sounded bad). I mean I could see it non pregnant (and even chunky had a flat-ish tummy), but it's not how I started shaving it. So when I was pregnant and had the belly it didn't hinder me trimming the hedge.
Riley J and Amanda C summed up the whole blood issue I wanted to avoid. The thought of it just irked me. Sounds weird I know, but it was something I had thought about.

I did and do - pregnant or not. I have a trimmer for "regular" maintenance but will fully shave once or twice a month. I am one of the lucky ones that Hubby helped out when I finally got to round to manuvuer around. I actually found that sitting as wide legged as possible on the tiolet worked best for trimmings. The trimmings would fall into the bowl. Full shaves really need to be lathered up and soapy so that was more a shower or tub situation.

I know that Hubby probably wouldn't care either way when I was preggers and I know the doctors see all sorts of kinds, but for me, I hate the bushy feel (like CherylO)! I also found things easier to keep clean post-partum without all that interference (as someone already mentioned).

Good luck!

I used to be super crazy about keeping a manicured look especially living in Florida. Now, I'm not at the beach or in a swimsuit as much so I don't care. My husband doesn't really care either. When I was pregnant I tried to keep a neat look but couldn't after a while. My hospital did shave me some, so I don't know. I've gotten very lax about shaving to the point I only shave below my knees for the most part! I'm so bad but it's just a pain in the bum in my opinion.
