If you're trying to boot up the computer. Try F2, F10 and F12. If the first doesn't work, try the next the next time you boot up.

I'm not a computer pro by any means, but I've had my fair share that I've fought with. Feel free to pm me with more details and I'll try to walk you through it. Unless we have some other mom here who knows what she's doing.

Are you saying that you need to shut it down and reboot? If it is frozen, hold the on/off button down until it shuts off by itself. If it's not frozen, press control/Alt/Delete all at the same time and then go to task manager and end all tasks.

Hope that is what you are looking for.

If it's completely frozen and nothing else is working, unplug it, remove the battery, wait a few minutes, put the battery bag in, plug it back into the wall (unless you think the battery has enough power) and turn it back on.

You will more than likely get a message saying it wasn't properly shut down the last time, but it wasn't and should be fine.

Hold down Control + Alt + Delete; if that doesn't work, just hold down the power button.

If you are trying to enter safe mode, you need to press F8. If you are trying to enter the BIOS (not recommended unless you know what you are doing), then F2 or the Delete key will typically get you there. F11 doesn't do anything that I know of for the boot process.

Another thing to try is to press and hold the power button until it shuts down and wait a minute or so. It should boot back up when you press the button again. It may ask you if you wish to boot normally or go into safe mode. Try booting normally.

If none of these things work, then your best option is to go to a computer repair shop. Depending upon how old the machine is, it may not be worth saving. However, the shops can usually (not always) save the data from your hard drive.

Good luck.
