This is my son's first year in "big boy" daycare and they are having their little class Christmas party tomorrow. I was wondering, do most people get a little something for their class daycare teachers? If so what kinds of things do you get them, any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I just wanted to Thank everyone for their insight and ideas!! There are 3 teachers for his class, so we decided to get each one, a little box of candy, a picture frame and each received a $50 gift card to Chilies and a $10.00 gift card to Cold Stone Creamery. We included a note to each one telling them that we hoped they could enjoy a night off with their family after taking care of ours. Thanks again!!

I've always done homemade goodies! That way they can all share! Chocolate covered pretzels with Christmas sprinkles, Reindeer poop and Peppermint Bark! So easy!

Reindeer Poop: 1 box of Captain Crunch (NO berries), 1 bag of pretzlers sticks (broken), Rice Krispies (amt varies to look) and 1 pkg of white Almond Bark. Mix cereal and pretzlers and poor melted bark over and stir. Poor out on lined cookie sheet and break apart after set up. You can add Christmas sprinkles for a Christmasy feel!

Choc covered pretzels: Obvious, while still wet add sprinkles

Bark: Crush peppermint candy canes (app 1 1/2C) to a pulp and melt one package almond bark. Mix together and poor on lined cookie sheet. Break apart after setting

My daughter is in first grade now but we started giving presents to her main teachers since she was in pre-school. because her pre-school had so many teachers we only gave presents to her main teachers.

Now, last Christmas and this Christmas we have given her kindergarten teacher, and now her first grade teacher a gift certificate from Macy's for $25.

they love, love the gift cards and I think it's just a little token of appreciation since they put so much effort into their teaching, it's only fair.
good luck! Oh! and I agree with the overload of candles, most of the moms I've talked to have given candles to the teachers.

I babysit from my home, and for my birthday, one of the families gave me a $20 gc to on the border, and for Christmas they gave a $50 gift card to Walmart. This is ALOT, but it was really nice! I always appreciate Starbucks cards for like, $5, or gas cards.
Little things like a thank you note included with something small is always nice. We don't feel very apprecitated most of the time, so a reminder is nice.

I was a preschool teacher for over 15 years and the best Christmas presents I ever got didn't cost alot of money. A card made by the child I taught, an ornament with their picture on it, a personal thank you note from the parents - these are all the things I still cherish to this day.

My kids and I always make cookies for teachers. It's gotten into a production - we have 14 teachers this year. As a teacher, my most common gift was a gift card to the teacher store, or a book store, or a local restaurant... and I appreciated every single token of appreciation.

K.,

I think the idea of a little gift for his daycare teacher is a wonderful one! It's always nice to be acknowledged for the work you do! I was at Target last night and they had an assortment of snow globes for $7 each - she might enjoy that. (Be careful - we found a really pretty one and didn't realize until we got home that they had charged us $16.99 for it! It was obviously on the wrong shelf - it's going back.) Or, if you don't know her very well, a picture frame is always a good, generic type gift that everyone can use. I'd steer clear of jewelry and cologne unless you know her likes really well. Anyway, I hope this helps! Have the Merriest Christmas and a truly Blessed New Year! God Bless you and yours! S.

I sent my son with his gifts for both his teachers today at his preschool. I gave them each a $10 gift card to Target and some candy that I made. I used paper lunch sacks to hold the candy and ribbon to tie it closed with a cute tag on the outside with the teacher's name and what type of candy was included.

I always gave picture frames because like most people they have more pictures than frames. I also notice lots of people giving $5 gift cards to Subway, Mcdonalds etc.. A girl here in my office I always purchase a Chick Fila calendar and she is always looking for it.. LOL..

We always have. This year I've done a little more, but I still only spent $25 on 5 people (2 teachers and 3 directors). I went to Hobby Lobby where EVERYTHING is half off. I got some really pretty wall crosses for about 5 bucks each. They also have very pretty ornaments you can get for 1.50-5. I wouldn't go overboard.

FYI -- teachers (including day care and preschool) get overloaded with lotions and candles. You may want to try something different.

We have always tried to give them something. Sometimes it was homemade candy or cake type of stuff, sometimes it was bought stuff. This year since money is really tight I am having both boys write letters to their teachers - both school, preschool & Sunday School about what they have learned from them, how much they appreciate them and their time, etc. My preschooler I will write the letter and help him sign his name. My school age can write his own letters. I just thought the teachers might appreciate something like that and it fits our budget. If I can get something made like Chex Mix, I might add that to it.....

I always have but it is not necessary or even expected.

My thought is… I want to thank them because the sad truth is that they see my boys more hours a day than I do! This year I gave a Candle, Room Spray and picture holder in a gift bag (I work for Pier 1 :-)) to our 4 teaches and the 3 office staff.

I certainly don’t think everyone does this especially during this economic slump.

Good Luck!
