Do I Have to Have a Period Between Birthcontrol Pill Packs?

This might be a dumb question, but I am wondering if I can start my next pack of birth control pills today instead of waiting until next Sunday and skip the period that should be coming next week. I am on Orthotricyclen 28's and have been for years. I am planning to go off the pill starting in May to allow conception to happen on its own time. Does skipping a period affect anything either health related or with conceiving in the coming months? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I am taking seasonele(sp) and it is 3 months w/o a period. at first I spoted but now i barely have a period at all ever. also my ob/gyn said that i don't even have to take the week off every three months that i can keep going and never have a period that there isn't anything wrong with doing that. Of cousre i would check with you doc first.

My OB told me I could skip my period three times in a row and be safe. You need to have one period and then you can start it up again for 3 months.

I've done that before when I had something important to do and a period would just mess it up. It never had any affect on me. Hope this helps...

Good luck getting pregnant again!!

My doctor told me I could do that for my Honeymoon. It worked fine-just a little spotting.

I was on Ortotricyclen and did this for my honeymoon and it went perfectly fine. I have had several friends do it too with no problems either.

My OB/GYN also told me to do this for my honeymoon - I do it every now and then if something special is that week. Never had any problems and know alot of people do this.

My ob will approve continuous use of BCP, but only certain brands. I'm not sure of the brand you are on. You'll very likely have some spotting since you haven't done this before. It might not even be worth skipping your period this month :(

The first couple of months I did it, I had ALOT of spotting. I use BCP for some hormonal problems I have, not as BC though. I use 3 months continuous, and then a week off. If you are really set on this, I would skip taking a pill today and call your gyn first thing tomorrow and ask the nurse. She can give you the go ahead as to whether it is safe or not. Then you can take a pill right away if she says it's okay.
