Hi A.,
My name is J. and I was divorced back 2001. I used a local attorney by the name of Carol Baskin. I believe that their company name is Baskin and Baskin and they are located in Marietta. My attorney did a great job, however, I often felt pressured to push for more than what I really needed. I only wanted out of my marriage and I was not seeking allimony, but only child support. I was advised to continue the fight and "go for blood"which would have cost me an additional 10,000, that I did not have. I did not want to displace my daughter from the only home she had ever known. But I was advised to continue in court and push to sell the house to claim 1/2 of all of the money and assests. My ex had owned the home for at least 5 years before we were even married. If I had taken the advice, my daughter would have lost the only home she had ever known and my ex would have been forced into an apartment or into family members homes. I walked away with a small settlement, against advice from my attorney, but my daughter still has the home she grew up in, addition to our home. I know things seem like you don't know what to do, but just try to keep in mind, what will most benefit your children. It was the hardest thing, that I have ever gone thorough, but I know that I did the best thing for my daughter, regardless of what may be presented to me. Now, if you have other circumstances, that warrent you keeping the home and going for everything that you can, then contact the attorney. But, just beware, that they all work for money and even though they may say they are there for you, they may not always have your best interest at heart. Rather, it may be your pocket book that they are interested in. I am a teacher and resident in Woodstock, so if you need someone to talk to you can contact me. It has been many years since my divorce, but I may be able to offer you some advice, or at least give you an ear to listen to.
Sincerely,
J. Silva
