Have you gone to Disney World and stayed off property? Can you tell me the good, the bad and the ugly? I want to stay somewhere not too expensive but not gross either. How were the shuttles?

Any info will be appreciated. We plan to go this October.

Thanks!

So What Happened?

My Disney indecision is killing me - but I think that we will stay on property at a value resort. It may be a while before we go back.

Plus - Disney is only half of the trip. So I need to save a few bucks for the second 1/2 of the trip!

Thanks all!!

We stay in the Marriott World Center...literally 5 minutes from Disney and it is FABULOUS! If mine and my husband's work stuff comes through we have already paid for a week at the Wyndham Bonnet Creek there in September...I'll let you know how it is!

we stayed at www.Floridasunvacationhomes.com
It was amazing, very inexpensive we rented an entire house with our own pool. It was on a resort that had it's own pool and the kids loved the house and the game room that came along with it. Would absolutely recommend everyone stay off the disney properties. They are too expensive and really not worth it.

We rented a house from www.vrbo.com and it was wonderful. We were between 7-15 minutes from any Disney Park, and about 40 from Sea World. It was my parents, sister, BIL, their 2 kids, my husband, me and our 2 kids so we split the cost of the house 3 ways & ended up each paying about $500 for the week. We got a 5 bedroom, 6 bathroom house with a game room, living room, dining room, fully stocked kitchen, gas grill, and screened in pool with hot tub. We also went in October. It was awesome!

I stayed at the plantation inn I think it was called, 15 min away and awesome. I reccomend visiting Busch gardens when you're there, there are 2 times as many rides, shows, animals...and NO LINES because everyone is in Disney, and only a 45 minute drive, and you can probably save money by not buying as many days at the parks

Your best bet are review sites like yelp.com just go and look up the town and the place and you will get an honest range of good reviews. Also travels sites like xpedia never steered me wrong.
Wish I were going! Have fun!

I have never stayed off property at DW. There are so many benefits to staying on site. We have never rented a car and if you stay on property and book through Disney you can do the dining plan which saves you a TON on food. There are cheap Disney hotels that are great for the price too. It is worth to at least look into the packages they are offering...

We stayed off the property once and never again. Look into it they have lots of reasonable priced hotels.

We stayed at the Omni Hotel & Resort- Championsgate and loved it! It's about 10 minutes away and provided shuttles to and from Disney. I went on Priceline.com and got it for $75/night (they also have a $25 resort fee). It was fabulous! I haven't stayed on site yet, so I can't compare, but it was by far the best hotel we have stayed at yet :)

Staybridge Suites Lake Buena Vista is our absolute favorite. Very clean and spacious, with full kitchens (we always get the 2-bed, 2 bath suite, but they have a 1-bed, 1 bath suite too). Way cheaper than almost any Disney property, except the value resorts and the rooms there are tiny.

Staybridge Suites LBV is also right next door to Winn Dixie, which saves you alot of time and money if you can eat some meals in the room. They also have "free" breakfast every morning. You are maybe 5 minutes from the entrance to Downtown Disney.

They have a bus schedule too, though we have never used it (we drive to Orlando).

The only caveat: The pool area is somewhat small. So . . . if your kids are really wanting to swim constantly that might not be the choice.

Also - DO NOT confuse it with the Staybridge on I-drive - NOT the same property.

Here is a link that might help you find it: http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/sb/1/en/hotel/mcobv .

Good luck and hope you have a GREAT time.

PS: We, too, have stayed at Marriott World and it's very nice. My only "beef" there is that it is a HUGE property and your room might be a long walk from the bus area. JMO.
