I went through this last January. I had a top of the line Maytag that died within 3 yrs. DON'T GO MAYTAG

I purchased a top of the line Kitchen Aid with stainless steel inside and LOVE it. It is the 4th diswasher I've had in 20 yrs and my favorite.

Best Buy installed as well. Pricing was very reasonable...less than $1200.

My only advice would be to purchase something that is easy and common to repair for minor issues. We have a beautiful LG stainless that broke 2 weeks ago, and it has been a nightmare to get it repaired since it requires rare parts that have to be specially ordered. The repair guy told us that while LG brand is popular right now, they are very difficult to repair. Having no dishwasher during the holidays has not been fun! Good luck.

Depending on your budget, go to Lowe's website and compare all the features you want with the different brands. If I was buying a new one, I'd get a Bosch. Well engineered, and quiet. Heats the water. I bought a Bosch washer and dryer and they are great.

Lowes seems to have the best prices and selection I've found. Also have no payments, no interest sometimes, which might help.

My Whirlpool died about 3 weeks before the Holidays after 13 years, not bad. We went to Lowe's and they had a deal 10% off with free installation if the machine was over $399 (or something like that). We purchased the Samsung $749 priced machine. It is stainless steel with no metal bar at the bottom. I like the layout of the shelves. A co-worker actually had just purchased this machine and recommended it to me. Also an added plus is that their help desk call center is in either Houston or Austin, TX. I have not had to call, but my friend had another applicance from them and was able to get help easily when calling their call center. This machine is very quiet, which is an added plus since our kitchen is right next to our family room with TV. The only thing I don't like is that the top drawer does not dry fully. I have to read the directions to see if I'm doing something wrong or this is just part of the energy star feature. Other then that we are extremly pleased with it.
