Vineger, bleach, work great so does tang.
You can also use a package of koolaid just dump it in and run a whole cycle it works great too!
A funky smell has developed in our washer. There are no food particles that I can find, but a less than pleasant order is present. Can I run the dishwasher with some type of cleaning agent that is natural - perhaps vinegar? to get rid of the smell?!

I would use a whole box of baking soda .40 and vinegar.
Go to walmart and buy some lemi-shine. It is next to the cascade for your diswasher. Mine was dirty and was not cleaning good, even the element was white down at the bottom and it should be black as can be. You use it with your detergent, I promise you will notice a differnce in a couple of cycles and it will clean and look almost new. Repair man told be about it and really works.
Renee had a great idea but yes you can also use vinegar, ours did the same thing and I ran it empty with vinegar and it took care of it. :-)
My husband read somewhere to run an empty dishwasher with Tang in it. We tried it. It worked.
I have read that you can put a couple cups of vinegar, run on regular cycle.
If you have a discolored inside of dishwasher , Put a can of orange juice in and run as usual.
Good luck.
