Dish Washing Liquid

I recently changed from one name brand detergent to another. A month later the sink sponge has a foul odor. I ditched the sponge and two weeks later the new sponge has a foul odor. This did not happen with the old brand. Not sure if detergent is the culprit. Needless to say I am going back to the old brand as soon as possible. Any thoughts/experiences will be appreciated.
PS: The sponge is the same - had a 3-pack. The old detergent was Palmolive oxy (no bleach)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I will try the microwave idea. The new detergent rhymes with Yawn - was on a really good price at the local supermarket. It is the non antibacterial kind. Thanks for all the suggestions.

I have never heard of this. Were you using the same kind of sponge you have always used? I have got to think there was a bad chemical reaction between the sponge and the new detergent if you were.

If you would the name of a good dish wash, I'd be happy to recommend.

I always use the anibacterial soaps. Palmolive, Dawn or Ajax. All seem to work great but I get them for the purpose of being antibacterial.

Good luck!!

What's the new one?

I always nuke my sponge. Every other day or so I pop it (damp) into the microwave for about 30 seconds on high.

I never buy "Yawn".. lol
my husband can't use it, it dries his hands out and makes him itch.

I use Ajax antibacterial dish liquid and toss the sponge in the dishwasher every few days. It's bacteria that make the sponge stinky, not the detergent itself

I had the EXACT same issue. I think Palmolive is just good at keeping out the bacteria. I cannot use anything else.
