Dirty Highchairs?

I try to remember to take anti bacterial wipes with me when I go out, but sometimes I forget or run out. I have a cart cover, but do not have a highchair cover and the cart cover I have will not double as both. Does anyone know if restaurants have policies regarding cleaning the highchairs and booster seats? I've asked some of the places we eat at and have always received blank stares.

The last 2 times we have eaten at a certain restaurant my 14 month old has ended up with progectile vomitting and diarrhea that night or the next morning. My 2 year old is ok, as are my husband and I, so I don't think it was what we ate. I checked their score and it is a 97. The first time I thought it could have been a coincidence...but we still did not eat there for several months because of it...now it has happened a 2nd time and I am wondering if perhaps they just aren't cleaning their highchairs good enough/often enough/at all? My husband is going to speak to the owner. He seems to be a really nice guy, and I think he would be the type of person to actually do something about this - ie change or enforce their policy. I'd hate to have to stop eating there because they have the best pizza in town. ;) But I absolutely hate seeing my sweet boy so sick! :( I am going to be more diligent about always having antibacterial wipes to clean with, and maybe buy a couple high chair covers. What would you do? Do you think talking to the owner is reasonable? He is always at the restaurant anyway...

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks! We will definitely be investing in a couple highchair covers and keeping wipes with us from now on. My 15 month old got sick first, then my husband, then me, and now my 2 1/2 year old is sick. :( Not cool!! I don't think we will eat at this place again.

I am a licensed Food & Bev Manager in FL & NV, I have worked in the industry off & on since age 14 and am now 58 and can tell you in my experience keeping highchairs clean has been something that practically requires a whip for most employees even those who are moms themselves, it is usually a swipe with a cloth and the better servers will use a spray. Health Inspectors do NOT look at highchairs/booster seats EVER and I don't believe it is even on their checklist. Servers usually have a checklist of duties at the end of their shift and very few properties have that listed....sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings...in ending I say...DON'T FORGET THE ANTIBACTERIAL WIPES ANYMORE, ANYWHERE! That way the baby will be protected and you can eat without worries...also make sure the diaper changer in the restroom that you use YOU clean off...sigh...sad but true.

highchairs are disgusting where ever you may go and just like the supermarket, playground etc, you can not count on anyone but yourself to look out for the best interest of your child. it may be simply one child that was sick using the seat 30 minutes before you that gets your child sick. after a few bad situations i would think a high chair cover would be a wise investment. if you forget your wipes then i would be eating with my child on my lap rather than the highchair.

I worked at two 5 star resorts for over 12 years. They NEVER clean the highchairs. A hostess may wipe it down with a cloth (usually not a clean one). If you talk to the owner they will probably smile and say they will do it and not. Just do it yourself. I have a cover that you can use on the shopping cart, I would recommend that or bring your own travel seat. It's just not worth the risk.

Do take out...
Or - bring wipes and clean the high chair, the edges of the tables, and his hands before you eat.
