Dinosaur Museums

My daughter (5 years old) LOVES dinosaurs. We live in northeast Alabama & have been to the U.S. Space & Rocket center this summer where they have the "T. Rex Named Sue" exhibit. She loved it of course!

We would love to take her to another museum during Christmas break. Do you know any other museums with a great dinosaur exhibit? If you know their web site that would be great too.

As I mentioned, we are in northeast Alabama, but we are willing to travel a little bit.

Thanks!
S.

Don't know how far you're willing/wanting to travel but the Natural History museum in Chicago is pretty good. I haven't been in years, but I remember it being pretty good, you might look it up!

I don't think of the the McWane in Birmingham as just a dino museum, but as a great kids/science museum. My sister-in-law has a membership for it, and we have one for the children's museum in Austin, TX which gets us in free, so whenever we visit her it's the perfect place for a playdate.

On our trip this summer we went to the Space & Rocket Center, skipped the T Rex part because we didn't want to pay extra. Then we went to Washington DC to see the Smithsonian museums. They were really amazing.

If you ever travel to Texas, you should see the small Texas Memorial Museum in Austin(free but closed for a couple of months) and the Mayborn Museum in Waco(experience a recreation of a dino dig site by looking through a glass floor).

It seems there has been a proliferation of dinosaur museums all over the country. McWane in Birmingham ALA has a big display and you can read about it online.

I loved Vernal Utah. The Dinosaur Nation Monument. The one building is closed and being redone right now but that part of Utah is riddled with dinosaur remains. I remember reaching out and touching a bone that was being excivated right there in the building. It was surreal.

Also, for some fun there is always Wall Douth Dakota. They have a cute dinosaur that roars loudly and is rather interesting. I took a whole roll of pictures of it for the boys at home when we traveled there. It is kind of on the way to Utah, either coming or going.
