sautee onions in butter and beer until they are carmelized..they are awesome on the brats
boil brats in beer before grilling them
Hi!
I am going to make Brats for dinner tonight and I would like to make them different. I will be putting them on a hot dog bun. But what else to put on them? Tomato, onions? And suggestions will be fantastic! TIA
Thank you for all the yummy ideas! I didn't get a chance to read all responses before I made dinner. I ended up sauteing red and green peppers, sweet onion and mushrooms in butter and put them on top. Turn out great! I am def going to use all your ideas:) Thank you mamas!

Saute onions, and peppers-and some of the jarred, jalapeno peppers -after they get a little translucent-add a couple tablespoons of brown sugar and a little balsamic vinegar-this "relish" is so delicious-I use it on burgers, too-my mouth is watering!
We slice up sweet onions and put the brats and the onions in a 13x9 dish and then throw a beer over them, cover and bake them in the oven...put them in a bun with the onions and some mustard, YUMMY!
mmm, maybe make a tomato relish. I'm thinking something like:
olive oil in a pan, throw in some chopped onions, add a little balsamic vinegar and a half teaspoon of sugar to get the onions nice and carmelized
dice up some tomatoes and throw them in
dice up some cucumber and some pickles and throw them in the saute pan
add a little ketchup and maybe some hot sauce like Tapatio or Cholula
spice it up with maybe a little chili powder, or red pepper flakes or paprika
might be a nice little condiment to add to the top of the brats;)
Let us know what you decided to do and how it turned out;)
Maybe this is too late for tonights dinner, but for another time, I wanted to share what we love about Brats. We soak them in beer (not necessary, just for fun) and then b-b-q them. I serve them on a toasted french roll, with a slice of jack or provolone cheese to melt as it toasts in the toaster oven.
I use mustard (yellow, or grey poupon) and sometimes my husband likes to slice the brats almost in half and put a slice of dill pickle in the hot brat. Nice contrast.
Our 12-14 year old has always enjoyed them, and the alcohol in the beer burns off.
Good luck and have fun!!!!
Go get a bag of broccoli slaw (in the section with bagged salads, etc) and pour about 1/2 bottle of sesame ginger dressing. Toss well and let it sit for a while to let the flavors meld. Then top your brats with it. Yum!
Pickle relish is always good. I have a friend who LOVES to make the stuffing for deviled eggs (Yolk from a hard-boiled egg, mayo, mustard, but for this she makes it a bit thinner than usual...) and use that on her Brats and hot dogs. She just eats the egg whites.
