I am in the market for a digital camera that takes exceptionally clear pictures. I mostly take pictures of my kids. I am not wanting to spend more then $175.00.
What do you use?

Go to Costco and buy the Panasonic Lumix w/ the $70 off coupon for $199. I have the version that is one step down, and I am drooling over this $199 one!
There are many good point and shoot digital cameras out there. Personally, I am a Nikon girl. All my cameras have been Nikon, except for one that my husband purchased and I don't even use that one any longer because the battery looses power too fast.
Bestbuy has some Nikon Coolpix, 8.0 Megapixels for under $175. Check it out. They are small, easy to handle, have some good shooting options so you can play around with different shooting modes to take fabulous pictures without being intimidating.
My mom has a kodak easyshare that we purchased a few years ago for her at Christmas. I thought it would be a good option for her since she is a self proclaimed 'technology challenged' individual. Frankly, I've been less then impressed. All too often she has trouble with the thing just starting!
Kodak does film and processing really well. For equipment, I like to stick to the companies that DO equipment. Cannon, Nikon, Olympus. Those are brands you can trust.
Like I said, I'm a Nikon girl and will recommend them all day long. I find them very easy to use and take fabulous pictures. My sister has one of the newer Nikon Coolpix cameras that my parents bought for her when she received her Masters degree. She loves it and it takes GREAT pictures. I've seen the pictures from some of the older coolpix models, and again, the same thing. If you get anything above 5 or 6 megapixels your photos are going to be good. Matter of fact, anything above that will most likely be more then you will need unless you plan on blowing up photos to very large format size.
I would get something that has both optical and digital zoom. It just allows for greater options in shooting. In very simple terms, digital zoom is the ability to zoom in on a picture you've already taken. Optical zoom is what you traditionally think of as zoom. Optical zoom is really what you want to have on your camera if possible.
Most digitals will have a few different shooting modes. These really do help and make a difference. And by shooting modes I'm not talking about manual stuff. I'm talking about automatic settings for landscape, kids, portrait, etc... They REALLY do make a difference and help anyone take great photos.
Nikon coolpix are easy to handle, a nice size LCD screen for viewing, and small enough to take anywhere. I know some people who have the Cannon powershot, and they like their cameras just as well. I've just not had any experience with Cannon.
Good luck. Hope I've offered some information that will help.
S.- Check out this link. It is at Wal-Mart website http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=1071.... I hope that this helps. With not wanting to spend more than $175 it is difficult to give advice on this for me. I use to sell cameras and this one was the hottest seller with great reviews from the customers.

Most stores have this item in stock you can go to www.walmart.com to find out if your local store has it in stock as well. Good Luck.
In April 2006 we bought an Olympus digital camera and we love it. We spent almost twice as much as you are looking to spend so I gave you my best advice on the price range you are looking to spend.
Check online Bestbuy to get some ideas! I used to use a Kodak Easy Share (which was a great little camera) and my dad has an olmypus, which he says works really well for him.
I have used Kodak Easy Shares for many years. I would definetly find one that uses a Lithium battery for long use.
I have a new Kodak one this time & the battery won't stay charged. Disposal goes through there life span quickly.
Check on Walmart.com as well they offer good bundle packages with memory card etc. I got my daughter a
Sanyo w/card & rechargeable battery for $69.00
Good Luck in your search.
If you're not a "photographer" then I would recommend not getting anything with too many bells & whistles to it. The first digital camera we bought we got a really really good deal on it, but it had so many settings on it that it was actually hard to take a good picture!
Good luck!
I know you said you would like to spend 175, however I just purchased a cannon I dont have it with me right now so I dont know thw model number but I know that its in the best buy ad this week for 229,sams club also has it and its 224 there. It has a large screen,9mp and 10x optical zoom, I could actually see a little hair fuzz over my daughters lip,the zoom is amazing! It uses 2 aa batteries, not the expensive kind like my older camera. Good luck!!
6 years ago we bought an Olympus for $300 and change. It just stopped working so I replaced it with a better Olympus for $69 (on sale at Meijer).
At this point, you can buy them for less than you can repair them for...I wouldn't spend $175...you just don't need to. You can get a GREAT camera for under $100. Uploading your photos to Walgreens is SUPER easy and SUPER cheap...they'll even ship them to you for pennies.

I would suggest Kodak. You get great software that allows you to turn pictures into coloring book pages or into cartoons or into classic black and white images~~it is really fun and easy too!! The pictures turn out real nice on my 2.1 megapixel camera!! Good Luck and have fun!!
We have a cannon easy shot... I think we paid about $175 for it... It is easy enough that my kids take pics with it all the time... More of a point and shoot camera.
The newer ones only use 2 batteries and i don't use the silly rechargeable ones or the expensive ones they suggest... I can take about 200 pics on 2 batteries... (duracell or energizer) We set our camera on the medium settings and the pics look great when printed out...
Happy hunting!
Don't restrict your search to in person... Most stores will match prices so check with all local stores that could sell the kind of camera you choose.
Go on ebay. I found a replica of the digital camera I have for less than $10. I'm sure you could find something there.
I was told when I purchased my first digital cam that the Kodak easy share was one of the best. And it is in that price range. I love mine for about 3 years and now I am wanting bigger and better. After the 3 to 4 years the pics are not so clear. But for only 100.00 not to bad for that long about 25.00 a year.
Here's a couple of fantastic sites that will have lots of reviews for cameras and can point you in the right direction:
http://www.steves-digicams.com/default.htm check out their Best of page and see if anything there works for you. http://www.steves-digicams.com/best_cameras.html
Make sure you find the pages that show samples of pics taken with the camera :)
Canon's Powershot SD 1100 IS doesn't have a great zoom but it's got :
Motion Detection Technology automatically reduces blur by calculating subject movement and selecting ideal exposure and ISO settings.
Along with face detection which I have on both my camera's and really like. Obviously both those features are great for moving kids :)
Good luck and have fun in your search. Once you find your camera check around online for prices, you don't have pay retail :)

I love my Kodak easyshare! My original one was 5 megapixals, the one I have now is 8. My son has a 7mp and my step-daughter has a 6 or 7mp. The software is super easy, including uploading to their site, sharing, ordering, etc. I usually order and have shipped to CVS which is only $2.50 compared to shipping to home. The more megapixals, the bigger the picture can be made, mine can do like poster-sized pictures just as clear as 4x6", but who ever does that? LOL The camera is user-friendly. I bought the rechargable litium batteries...the only thing about mine I don't like is that I can't turn off the viewer, so it sucks down the battery life. You can get them onsale at times, or go to the Kodak website...they often have re-furbished ones that they still warranty.
One hint for clearer pictures...use the "sport" or action setting instead of just the auto...with kids or animals, it allows for any little movement. Also, the Kodak has a thing on the screen (a little hand) that tells you if it's a good picture or not...green is good, yellow OK, and red will be blurry. That way you know right away and can re-take the picture if you need to. You can also crop and improve you pictures right on the camera.

We have an Olympus and love it! It takes awesome pictures, it's a 10mpix and the screen is 2.5 and clear. There are a ton of different settings, but there is also just an auto setting, which I tend to use the most :) We paid $150 for it, however, that was when it was fresh out, brand new model. It's been out for almost a year now, so you should be able to find it cheaper. We also like it because it's skinny. My hubby can throw it in his pocket, or I can put it in the diaper bag. I also found you can edit the pictures right on the camera, without disruppting the orignal picture. I actually did our Christmas card on the camera and then just printed them out...very easy, and I normally don't use technology :) Good luck and happy shopping!
I have had three digital cameras including my teenage daughters. First I would make sure you spend the extra for a card that can store enough pictures. 256 or 2G is what we have. Also I use rechargeable batteries for cameras, Wii, remotes etc. The last feature I would look for is a camera that is more than a point and shoote. As your kids get older or if they are in sports, you will want a camera that will take "action" shots. Good Luck.
