My newborn has a cows milk/milk protien allergy and must feed her either Elecare formula or Neocate. Has anyone used either one? Is one better than the other?
get a nanny goat for the back yard. It will kep grass ansnweed down and the provide mikf for the babies. ASk your doc.

I keep children in my home and one of the babies was on the Elecare for severe allergies. He seemed to do really well on it . I believe they tried the Neocate but he did better on the Elecare. I hope this is helpful.
I've used neither but was given Alimentum (Similac) and my daughter did great on it. She went to soy at 9 months and is now on whole milk. Hopefully your little one will grow out of it like mine did.

I have a really good friend who's son, a day older than my son, has a milk/protein allergy. She learned this info when he was an infant. He is severly allergic, if even touched by someone who has eaten or touched something that contains milk, and has to carry an eppie pen. He is now 6 years old.
I do not know what kind of formula she gave him as an infant but can probably find out that info for you. Seems like I recall her mentioning Neocate but I can't be sure. I will be happy to inquire.
Her son goes to an allergist every 6 months to a year to have blood drawn to check his allergy levels. Unfortunately, he's not close to outgrowing his at the time. The good news, it's easier to live with than you might imagine. She is so knowlegable that I'd be happy to give her your info if you feel comfortable sharing. I'm sure she'd be happy to help as she doesn't want to see others struggle like she and her husband had to. I've learned so much from her, simply because her son and my son spend a LOT of time together and we now keep snacks and food that both of the kids can enjoy.

if you didn't want to stop breastfeeding (not knowing if you ever did, or if you ever even wanted to) you could cut out all milk proteins from your diet and thus make your milk like elecare/neocate. if this info (re: breastfeeding) does not pertain to you, then perhaps this info can help another mama somewhere:)
as for neocate/elecare- which ever one you use, they are both pretty much the same, just give the formula a good 2 or even 3 weeks to show it's full effect. these formulas taste differently and are very thin, so you might want to try transitioning very slooowly if your baby doesn't take to it right away- one ounce of the new formula w/ the rest of the bottle the old formula & then do this for a day or two and then make the bottle w/ 2 ounces of the new formula, etc, so on...
