Diet for Mental Clarity and Energy?

I recently switched my diet to cut out dairy (plugged up my sinuses, possibly due to an allergy mold) and meat (experimental may go back to unprocessed meat 2-3x a week later), while stacking up on veggies, fruit, beans and other protein sources. I cannot believe the difference in my mood. I feel more optimistic and positive - I tried affirmations and positive thinking before, but maybe that's hard to do on a bad diet... I'm also hypoglycemic, so the sugary granola bars, crackers while being light on fruits and veggies most days must have wreaked havoc on my sugar level. I felt so much more emotional before than I do now and it's only been a week on this new diet. Every day I feel a little bit better. My energy is better although I still have fatigue and joint pain due to an autoimmune disease. Has anyone else experienced these types of positive effects from changing diet? I'm pleasantly surprised!

Absolutely! Our bodies need nutrition. You might even get some relief from that joint pain if you stick to this! When I became a Shaklee Distributor I became exposed to all sorts of stories of success. I take quite a bit of Alfalfa daily..... really helped my joints!

Yep, I changed my diet over 30 yrs ago. I figured my body was not a chemical waste dump so I took the chemicals out of my diet and cut back on salt.
My ex-husband is a garbge gut, diabetic, losing his vision, and generally falling apart. He turned 57 in July and has had a few close calls with the grim reaper. I will be 57 in December look about 40 and refuse to settle down into old age.

If you can add 30 minutes of exercise to your routine, you will be amazed at how much better you feel.

Absolutely.
Last year, I got so fed up with how crappy I was feeling- major fatigue, bloating, crankiness, depression (feeling like I was going to cry all the time), overweight, etc. I bought a book called "Whole Life Nutrition Cookbook" and did the elimination diet for about a month. Now, I did not follow it to a T: It suggests a 2 day smoothie detox for the first 2 days, and I just could not get through 2 days of cold smoothies in January. I also had a hard time cutting out tomatoes and citrus (the elimination diet is just to help you rule out food sensitivities and both those items are foods that some people are sensitive to). However, I did cut out all refined sugar, all flour, oats, corn, dairy and only had meat once a week (it suggested going off meat for 1 month, but I just could not do it). I lost 10 lbs and had so much energy. I ate whenever I was hungry and rarely had cravings-when I did, it was for things like cabbage or sweet potatoes. I felt like FINALLY I was eating to fuel my body and get vitamins, not because I was bored or needed a pick-me-up-sugar-fix at 4 pm.
Unfortunately, I started eating sweets again and went off the deep end...*sigh*. Well, I am trying again, but being less strict. I have cut out flour, oats, corn and sugar. I am going easy on dairy but I still will have a little milk in my coffee or an occasional string cheese, or a bit of butter. I have been craving a lot of meat lately and I find that I function a lot better if I consume a lot of protein and also a bit of fat- I stay full longer. I am feeling really good.
I have also heard many people say that they have much better mental sharpness when they take fish oil- maybe something to try.
I have really bad restless leg syndrome and insomnia and I found that my symptoms went away the last time I cut out sugar and flour, so hopefully I can get those results again. My mom suffers from this too and the medications she takes are just horrid, such awful side effects. I am hoping I can avoid them just by changing my diet.

Almost 3 weeks ago I went on a very strict, low sugar diet to combat overgrowth of yeast in my body. I was having a host of issues with my GI (Gastrointestinal) tract, white tongue, fatigue, and not feeling all that sharp mentally after taking 10 days of strong antibiotics a few months ago. I took a 2 hour lab test for diabetes and my tummy was a painful mess. So, I started this diet and within 3 days, my energy began to come back, after 2 weeks my GI symptoms were all greatly improved, and I even lost about 4 or 5 lbs. I do take probiotics and natural antifungals too.
I think nutrition has a lot to do with how we feel. We really are what we eat! Glad you are feeling better. Make sure you increase your protein if you decrease your carbs so that your muscles will still have the building blocks they need to maintain themselves and protein and fiber also stablize blood sugar.

I am preparing to do the same. I have felt sluggish, tired, and generally bad for a year and have gained 20 lbs. I am switching to a plant based diet, forgoing meat and dairy and hoping for better skin, better energy, reduced craving, and of course, weight loss!
