Didj or Leapster?

Christmas is just around the corner! I am considering the Leapster or the Didj for my kindergarten age sons.
Has anyone purchased the didj? In the product description, it states the age range is 6-10 years old.
Would this be appropriate for a 5 year old? Should I stick with the Leapster?

What can I do next?

My kids love, love, love the Leapster!! It has games on it that go all the way up to like 10-12 yrs old, all the way down to 3-4. Its great, and I think a little cheaper. And since you have twins that matters. We dont' have twins but our two little ones are 1 yr and 8 days apart, so its like having twins right now. We have to buy two of everything!

Good luck!

We currently own both. We have 3 boys. The ones that play with them are 6 (1st grd) and 9 (4th grd)the other is a Junior in HS. We had the Leapster first and they loved playing it. They still play with it, I've even caught the oldest playing with the Leapster :-). We recently bought the Didj and you should have seen their face light up when we gave it to them!

I think that you know your boys and if you think they can handle the games that might be one or two grade levels ahead then go for the Didj. If not the Leapster has lots of games for both of my sons. :-).....My husband (Hey no comments from the peanut gallery :-) says, "The Leapster is for younger kids" :-) The downside of sharing an office with him :-)

my son is 6 and has the didj, i would not have bought the didj for him when he was five becasue the games require quite a bit more in the fine motor skills areas, and the learning parts of them are fairly difficult, for example in star wars you cant pass a certain area unless you know what a parrallelogram is, and in sonic you have to be able to spell at least a four letter word to move on.
this would have frustrated the heck out of my son at five, get the leapster for this year, it has a lot more games also.
i am a little dissapointed i did not get the leapster.
in the didj favour though my son is learning to spell really well, and the graphics are as good as a nintendo ds.

If your son is anything like mine (5 1/2) he's already been exposed to kids with Nintendo's and Wii. I bought him a leapster a couple of years ago and it's great, but I think the didj would be a better idea. Most of the games are quite easy on leapster, and the didj would keep them entertained longer, and you would get your moneys worth. Also, it looks more like a nintendo ds than the other, for what it's worth. I just feel my son has grown out of his leapster. He has had it for a couple of years though.
