Quite awhile back someone was asking for book recommendations. I took the advice given and read The Help and The Lovely Bones.
Anyways, I finished The Lovely Bones last night and was dissapointed.

*SPOLIER ALERT*

When she came back to earth as Ruth, why didn't she tell Ray who killed her or where her body was? I thought for sure since thery were at the sink hole SOMETHING was going to happen to discover her remains.

Why was Hal so involed towards the end of the book, hanging out with grandma and Buck? He was no relation or friends even with Susie or Lindsey. Seems like he would be off with his biker buddies. I know his younger brother was dating Lindsey, but even so, that doen't make him a person that would buy a drumset. It was almost like the characters of Sam and Hal were one in the same.

It just seemed like clues were left alone, the Sophie chick that was killed by the man who made doll houses.... the never tied it in.

I guess maybe I have seen too many episodes of CSI, where every detailed was explained away.

Let me know what you think!!

P.S. Going to read funny books next that were recommened to me (Devaid Sedaris, Janet Evanovich)

What can I do next?

I haven't read the book, but I saw the movie. I thought it was a good movie, though of course, the subject is so horrible.

From watching the movie (I don't know how different the endings are from the book - sorry), I think that the reason she didn't tell where her body ended up was because they already had evidence from his diary of what he had done. The girl decided instead to have the experience of kissing the boy she had been sweet on - in the end, that became more important to her. That meant that her spirit would be at rest. Her family was able to be at rest because they finally KNEW who killed her, and though they didn't actually catch him, he would certainly be identified once his body was found after his fatal fall.

If you haven't seen the movie, I would recommend seeing it now that you have finished the book. If what I say doesn't make sense, perhaps the book and the movie are very different.

I know this doesn't answer all your questions, but it has been at least 2 years, I think, since I saw the movie, and this is the part I remember.

Okay, it's been a while since I read it, but I agree the end was disappointing. I liked the book okay I guess, but it just wasn't what I expected. I thought the whole Heaven thing was weird and maybe just because it's not the way I picture it to be. But, yeah, I agree that I expected something more from the sinkhole experience, I mean they were so close!!! But, maybe it was to show that in so many cases like these, they never do find the children and families are left to wonder or piece the information together. It was very sad.

I love David Sadaris and Janet Evanovich but they are VERY different authors! Sedaris is very dry, lots of big words, witty, observation/experience humor and Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series is just down right silly and very entertaining!

you know i got so sucked into the book that my memory is of liking it and thinking the writing and mystery was so good, and the inbetween of heaven and the misery of the family, that the ending --which i agree with everything you have written --I guess i just sort of forgot about.

Still it was a book that made an impression on me. i guess and to me that is what makes a good book.

Do you know about Goodreads.com?? people review books and share it, becareful of spoilers but a neat place to go to see if people agree withyour assessment.

I too was quite disappointed with the ending. I was hoping that there would be more closure for the family and they would find her body. After reading the book, I knew that I just could not see the movie because the content was just way too disturbing...

i loved it. i think the jarring details are what made it so real for me. how often do cases like this get wrapped up all neatly?
