I was just eating dinner last night with two close friends who want kids so bad and cant' have them. Educated, lovely, nice, loving ladies. Not fair.
I just heard about it this morning about the 9 yr old little girl thad died. Her grandmother and stepmother made her run for 3 hours around the house because she lied about eating a candy bar. Im so heart broken, who in their right mind would do such thing?
I'm speechless!

Why these morons are given the gift of a child bewilders and frustrates me.
There are too many wonderful women who can't get or stay pregnant and therefore looking for children to adopt and give good, loving homes to. These are the people who should have the PRIVILEGE of having a child. These two women should be burned at the stake. They're disgusting.
Remember before judging that the public does not know the entire story here, I remember my daughter getting punished by running around the sidewalk out back when she was around this age because she lied or was disrespectful. Being medical we checked on her often and it was NEVER for this long but with so many negative cognitions surrounding corporal punishment in our society you have to get creative. Do you remember the big buzz about the young teen in military boot camp who died because of OVER hydration? Things happen and I am sure we will get a bigger picture soon enough
Live Bold: She may have known that the consequences of not doing it were worse than doing it.
It is extremely sad. I'm sure mama and grandma will get plenty of running in trying to outrun all the inmates who are going to want to hurt them! Go get 'em girls!
This is why here on mamapedia we always encouraging parents to make the punishment MATCH the problem.
Running for hours has nothing to do with anything this little girl could have possibly done.
It is just like a lot of punishments I read on here.
to feel better? It shows that the parents are frustrated and able to control their own behaviors.
Children can be raised to be respectful, intelligent, and responsible, without these random punishments that make no sense.
It just takes the time to educate ones self.
How can someone, hate a child so much, that they do that.
I remember once when I was about 12 I had done something that my dad was really upset about. Can't for the life of me remember what it was. But, he knew how much I hated to run and made me run around the block. He told me if I didn't run it in a certain amount of time I would have to run it again. I thought he was bluffing. I ran that stupid block for about an hour. By the end I was crying and one of the neighbors kept asking me if I was okay and I had to say that I was being punished.
My dad is actually a great father. I don't know why he did that.

The Houston, Texas story is horrifying, too. Kids tied to beds.
Mamas--How should we get society to the best parenting practices? Even one story like this is too many. I think I'll start a thread on this question.
It's not like the mom and grandma are any examples. They are definitely fat themselves. So horrible. I don't know how or why she complied for that long. There's no way any of my girls would be willing to follow such an unjust punishment.
