Did You Have the Mirena IUD Removed Due to Side Effects?

If you had your Mirena removed, how soon after removal did you start your regular period? Also did you have side effects that prompted you to have it removed and did those go away after removal?

I've had several various symtoms for the past 2 years since my daughter was born and I went to see a general Dr. to get some blood work done. Everything but my Vitamin D levels were fine. She suggested it could be the Mirena causing some of the issues since I seemed to start experiencing everything after I had it inserted 2 years ago. I'm seriously considering getting it removed and looking at other options.

I had it removed after 3 months. My hair fell out and I couldn't lose any weight no matter how hard I tried- and I know how to lose weight - lol - so I had them pull it.

No regrets - just went back on my old pill and it's all going well...good luck.

I had the mirena removed simply because it was past time (6 years). The only side effects I noticed were no periods and smaller breasts. I had a period 1-2 weeks after getting it removed (don't remember exactly), and got pregnant within 8 months (it took longer because I went on the pill for some of that time). And my breasts went back to normal pretty quickly. I do have a friend who got pregnant within a month of having her mirena removed, so if you don't want another child yet, make sure you have something lined up and ready to prevent it.

Don't know if that answers all your questions, but hope it helps.

For the past three years I have battled with so many changes to my health. It all started when I noticed I was still producing milk and I had stopped feeding my son almost 2 years before the discovery. Fatigue, headaches, and weight gain were issues. I could never get a clear answer as to what was wrong with me. The doctors did detect that I had vitamin D deficiency. Throughout this process of going to MANY doctors to determine what was wrong with me, I was also feeling nervous about what I should do in regards to birth control. I selected the Mirena and I can say that my vitamin D deficiency remains. I cannot conclude for sure if the Mirena prevents my levels to increase despite my efforts with supplements. However, I can say that the Mirena did not cause it. I have been diagnosed with having Hypothyroid issues, however I have still not bounced back to my old self. Still have major weight issues, TIRED, and Vitamin D doesn't seem to get any better. I hope you find out more information to determine your situation, because my luck has been pretty bleak!

Yep. I gained 30lbs in 6months (while actively dieting and trying to *lose* weight) and became a total beeeeyotch (my poor husband and kids)! It was truly awful, so I had it removed. Period came back about 3 or so months later and now I'm back to having heavy-ish periods with painful cramps. But I've lost most of the weight (took a LOOOONG time) and I'm not constantly cranky, so it's worth it.

I would have horrible back pain around the time that I would ovulate. It felt like I had a kidney infection but in a day or two the pain was gone until the next month. I also just felt off, bloated, headaches just all around icky and i had mine for about 9 mos and spotted the entire 9 mos.

This is a very good question...I have the IUD and have thought i was happy with it but i too have insomnia now i am over fatigued and can not lose weight (after STRICT dieting) i guess i didnt want to think there could be anythign wrong with it.... i had a friend that had to get it removed because hers shifted (very rare) I just think its a godsend to not have to worry about taking a pill or shot...i would look at other options you can allways try someithing else and if you are not happy go back to it

YES, I had every side effect in the book, the worst being weight gain, MIGRAINES, irritability, insomnia... just everything. Within a week of having it removed, I was a new person!! That thing was EVIL.
