Wow, Grandma T, I get a totally different response to that video than your "So What Happened?"
With the help of parents, advertising, and holiday custom, the kids spent weeks anticipating Halloween night, working on costumes with parents pumping up the excitement, reminding the right things to say, including "thank you," the long trek through the neighborhood, the delight and anticipation as the hard-won morsels accumulate. What wealth! Think of the hopes and plans for a sweet future, doled out a candy or two at a time.
The parents jab mean-hearted lies at their children to get a reaction. These are their own children, whose feelings would ideally mean more to them than a laugh from an anonymous audience. For all we know, those parents also got paid fees for exposing their kids to public merriment. The kids are brats? I found myself crying for the poor kids. And furious at the adults, stooping to cruel lies to get cheap laughs.
Wow, I notice I'm feeling really angry. This is unusual for me – I usually process, excuse and forgive. I think it's gonna take me awhile on this one.
