That the wonderful author - Anne McCaffrey - passed away? I can honestly say I LOVED every single book, series or stand alone, that she wrote!! I also had no idea she was 85!!

She and her son had been corraborating with spin offs to the Pern series, like filling in the gaps of the earlier years after they settled - but he is DEFINITELY not her!

What can I do next?

My mom has read most if not all of her books, thanks for telling me I told her as well.

So sad! I loved the Crystal Singer stuff and the ships who sang. Sigh!

If you like her stuff, you may like Mercedes Lackey. She's also a wonderful writer.

Oh! The article I read said she had canceled an appearance last week due to what she thought was having indigestion but turned out it was something to do with her heart. I thought it had been a heart attack.

Oh, no! I'm so sad. :( I LOVE her books, and you're right...her son's writing is just not the same, at all.

I always loved her books too. I'm sure she will be missed by many readers of her work all over the world. She was one of my favorite authors from when I was about 12 on. I reread my first copy of Dragonflight so many times it literally fell apart. We were all discussing this on Facebook last night and there are some good articles online. One said to remember her by making donations to animal charities, especially those that help horses and cats (I guess there aren't any for dragons). There is biography that has been out a few years. I believe the title is A Life with Dragons.

I had the pleasure of meeting her son Todd at a convention about 2 years ago. Anne McCaffery was supposed to be the guest but was not in good enough health to travel anymore. He seemed to be very aware that he was inheriting his mom's legacy with the Pern series (though I read she had allowed a couple of other relatives to write in that world as well). He said several times how much she appreciated her readers and fans of her work.

I agree with you the stories he is writing about Pern are kind of different than his mom's. I especially miss the strong female characters.

Somewhere there is a recipe for Klah that has chocolate, coffee and cinnamon in it. It was published in a book but I bet it is online someplace too.
