I had flu this winter and the cough was really bad. It lasted nearly 3 weeks. The only way I could sleep through the night was using a prescription narcotic cough syrup. I hope you fare better!
I woke up last Monday with a hacking, uncontrollable cough and as the week progressed my symptoms became worse. On Wednesday, I went to my MD and was diagnosed with the flu. I have never had the flu in my life. Of note, I am 7 months pregnant so the entire experience was probably a little worse than normal. I finally feel better today with the exception of a lingering, hacking cough that has haunted me all week - it is worse at night - I have hardly slept this week b/c the cough repeatedly wakes me up. I went to a walk in clinic today, wondering if perhaps it has transitioned to bronchitis but they claimed my lungs were just irritated and it would take time. I am losing my mind with this cough. Wondering if anyone else experienced this and what perhaps helped or how long you delt with it for? Please see above - I did see 2 doctors and have been in touch with my OB throughout the week - I am not asking anyone to diagnosis me. Thank you!

I haven't been sick in 20+ years and this year a little coughing in early Feb turned into pneumonia . I was shocked, I seire I had at least a broken rib. I was out of pocket 2 weeks in a time that was so important to our family company.
Finally after 2 weeks, my chest xray was clear. I still have a tough time with regular stuff and getting back to norm without getting out of breath. My cough is finally better after 3 weeks.
Please take care of yourself. Take all the time needed to recover... You don't need a relapse or worse.
Get well soon !!
I've had problems with a lingering cough for almost 2 months now... I did go to the doctor about half-way through (when symptoms got much worse after improving), and I tested negative for the flu......
I guess mine is mostly allergies and post-nasal drip causing the constant coughing, throat clearing, and laryngitis......
So ready to get over this!
Hope you are feeling better soon!
Our family (fingers crossed) did not get the flu this year.
However, it went through my kid's school like wildfire!! We had like 30 to 45% absent for about ten days straight. It was Flu B.
My husband and I had it about eight years ago and it was the worst ten days of my life!! At one point I just wanted to die I was so sick.
I am so sorry you are feeling crummy! And while you are pregnant makes it even worse!! Big hug!!
Are you able to take something like Mucinex D? That always controls my cough. The D is a cough suppressant and can be purchased in products only containing that one ingredient.
Try keeping a heating pad on your chest.
The heat helps me if I have a cough.
oh, you poor dear. the flu is just vile.
no, i didn't get it this year. i'm lucky- it's been about 10 years since i had a real bout of flu.
it must be a nightmare coping with it pregnant. gah!
have you tried the old onion-boiled-in-honey cough syrup? it's strange and gross, but oddly effective! and has the virtue of being completely safe.

Negative. None of us.

I got it!! First time ever in at least a decade. In addition to painful cough, my whole body hurt and I could not stand or do ANYTHING for like a week! The following week I was still exhausted and constantly coughing. Last week I felt much improved but still tired.
It was brutal.
No flu in my house. However, one of my girls had some other respiratory virus. And we did get notes home from schools that the flu was pretty bad, to keep the kids home with even the tiniest fever or cough. Which I thought was stupid since you can have a cough from the dry air. Anyway, a friend at work came home from vacation with a bad cough. She took sudafed and it helped a bit. Drinking lots of tea also helped. Her voice is finally back and she is not coughing anywhere near as much. For those coughs from irritation, it does take time. She had her cough for about 3 weeks.
Laying down makes it worse. Try sitting up to sleep. I am so sorry that there doesn't seem to be a cough suppressant that you can take when you're pregnant. Have you asked specifically for one? If you haven't, perhaps your doctor doesn't really understand your pain.
