My 3 year old has been having diarrhea since yesterday. She had one last night, 2 at daycare today where she also threw up a ton, then just had another diarrhea. Is there anything she can take to help with this? I'm not as worried about the vomit as I am the pooping. I cut off her juice and milk, and she's only been drinking pedialyte today. She is currently munching on cheerios. Any help would be appreciated!

I have been doing the BRAT for the most part, except she's pretty sensitive to apples, the generally give her the runs anyway. :-)

Wow, Mama R. Had I known she was sick, I wouldnt have sent her to daycare. I told her provider she had had diarrhea before I dropped her off. She wasnt running a fever, she wasnt acting sick, and she sometimes gets it from drinking too much juice, which she had been since my mom had visited. Thanks for making me feel like a terrible mother. And now we're pretty sure it was food poisoning, so it wasnt anything your precious, perfect babies could have caught.

I did call the doctor, and they said not to bring her in unless it gets worse, since she's acting fine, only vomited the once, and isnt running a fever.

What can I do next?

Two runny BMs and "threw up a ton" at daycare?!?!!! I hope she doesn't attend the same daysare as my kid since she is puking all over the place. Gross. Do you realize that she could be making all the other kids sick?

Youa re risking dehydration. Happened to me 3 months ago. Oh man, I was so miserable with nausea, feeling hot/cold, flu like. It gets worse from there and can be life threatening.

Drinking lots of pedialyte and water. She could have lost potassium in which those body fluids and could feel much better eating stuff with that in it (bananas, white bread, potatoes, you can find out what else on line no doubt.)

BUT you don't even know what got this started therefor you should get a doctor's diagnosis. She might need an antibiotic. I'd try to get her in today! They do have those Urgent Care Clinics in case your doc can't work her in and you don't want to go to the ER if you don't have to.

I'm not sure if she's supposed to be eating food. Check that out on the web too. www.webmd.com or www.mayo.com are two reliable sites.

Try the BRAT diet as noted before, but it has also been upgraded to the BRATTY diet... bananas, rice apples or applesauce, toast, tea, and yogurt.

The above site is similar to many others and the apples could be replaced with one of the other foods or skipped I'm sure. I was always told CLEAR liquids for a few days. That means anything you can see through, ( like tea ). Sometimes it takes a day or so and don't give large amounts but sips. One place said not too hot or too cold for drinks too. I was always slow to start on food then after diarrhea and so go slow in feeding whatever you give after this diet.

I know you said she is getting better. That is good news. With a virus you have to wait it out. Plenty of liquids though is what you need, especially with vomiting.
Next time she has diarrhea give her some mashed potatoes. I used to do that with my girls. We kept potatoe flakes on hand and elimated the milk in the recipe from the box. They were a little bland, but they liked them. And the starch would help. Our doctor recommended this when they were teeny tiny.
I hope this helps some for next time. Good luck and God Bless.

It sounds like she has a stomach virus.
She needs to be on all liquids. Give her as much liquids as she wants to fill her up and keep her hydrated. No solids.
If you are really worried, take her to the doctor.
