Mamas & Papas-

Lost my planter box flowers to an insect infestation. This time around, I'm replanting them, but putting a diaper in the bottom of the pot first. I read on the internet, that it's a great trick because it helps the pots hold onto moisture. I'll let you know how it goes.

Have you had any success with this diaper trick?
Have you tried any of the other life hacks that you sometimes see floating around the internet? I've used a bit of balled up aluminum foil to scrub a pot in a pinch, but that's about all I've put to use.

Best,
F. B.

What can I do next?

Microwaving a mug with vinegar and water to easy clean your microwave, and plugging up the holes in bath toys with hot glue (to avoid mold) are the only internet-hacks I use. The rest of my hacks are pure redneck ingenuity. ;)

The gel crystals in the diapers that absorb moisture are the same thing that they sell in plant stores to help your soil hold moisture longer.
It should work just fine.

I would also suggest putting a few larger pebbles at the bottom of your potted plants that should also help!

Never heard of that. Does it call for a cloth or disposable diaper? I would be leery of using a disposable one since they are filled with chemicals to absorb the liquids.

Living in Florida my plants stay nice and wet during the spring and summer, the winter is drier so I use the sprinklers on them.

You can buy the the same water-holding gel beads found inside diapers by the bag or box and add it to your soil. They sell it specifically for this reason in the gardening department. Then you won't have the issue of plastic and rotting fibers in your flower pots.

My oldest grandson don't like the seeds in cucumbers which I didn't know until after I had sliced them all. He started to use a spoon to cut out the seed middle when I had an 'oh I know what would work' thought. I got an apple corer and handed it to him. Worked like a charm.
