Diapers - Pampers vs Generic for Boys

We are expecting our 2nd (a boy) in January. We used Pampers exclusively for our daughter and they worked great. Since she has been out of diapers, they have changed their product to include "dry max" which I've heard causes bad diaper rash. Has anyone used Pampers since the formula change and had good/bad experiences with boys? What about the Target or Sam's club brand for boys?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you EVERYONE for the fabulous input!!! Hubby and I talked about it and decided to buy small packages of both Pampers and the Target brand and see what works best for our little guy once he gets here.

I use the Target brand with my 19 month old son now and love them. I think it all depends on the boy too. My 3 year old leaked out of everything but Pampers. I have not used the Pampers since they have changed them.

I used Pampers when my little boy was young then switched to LUVS. I think they are made by the same company but are cheaper. I've never had trouble with leaks or rashes other than those caused when teething.

I used pampers exclusively for my 2 girls, bc everything else gave them the worst rashes! My BFs coworker has twin boys and clued me in on Target brand diapers when I was pregnant with my son... and she has been such a money saver for me!! LOOOOOVE TARGET BRAND DIAPERS!! Super cheap, and they WORK. Save your money ;)

We've been using Pampers for our son and continue to use the new 'dry max'. The diaper rash incidents are few and far in between. The whole situation was hyped up by the social media - there has never been an official recall or anything of that sort.
We really like the brand and it has worked very well for us. My son is 9.5 months old and never had a single diaper rash -hope it stays that way:)
I really like the fact that the dry max is not bulky on him and absorbs so well that it keeps my son dry. We've not tried any other brands but I've heard in general most boy moms go for Huggies.

I have to use pampers for my daughter, bc others make her have a bad rash.
i can use an off brand or huggies every now and then, however, i can't use them back to back. I perfer pampers, plus you can sign up at pampers.com for free and add the codes that are stickered on the side and use them to get stuff. were about to get some stuff from there, theres alot to choose from.

I love the Target brand. I used them for my girl and currently for my boy. I used the Sams brand once, and just didn't like the way the diaper felt and looked on the outside, but I didn't have any issues with it doing it's job. Target all the way! I haven't used Pampers since the switch to dry max either, I'm sure it depends on the child's sensitivity whether they get a rash or not.

I have had awful experience with pampers. I had bought some and my son was wearing them and went to change him during the night, turns out the diaper had broken open and the absorbing seeds, or whatever they put in them was everywhere! In my sons hair all over the sheet, his hands. Piles of it all over. Thought maybe just that one diaper, nope happend several times. Even on a different package of pampers someone gave us. From there on I will never use pampers again. Exclusivly a huggies fan and user.

I was a professional nanny for twenty years and I have found out that one diaper does not work for each baby. If you are going to switch to a generic brand, buy a small package, I know it cost more, but you will be able to see how it holds up for your second baby. I have used them name brand and generic, huggies did not work for my son at all, but I still would tell someone to give them a try. The walmart brand did not work for us, but their pull-ups did. Luvs is always a good options, cheaper and you can usually find coupons and at target you can combine the target luvs coupon with the luvs manufactor coupon and get them for about the same price as the target brand diapers. Good luck!

We switched from Huggies to Target brand diapers when our son was just over a year old and they are great! So much less expensive than name brand and seem to work just as well. I do still buy Huggies overnight diapers tho. Good luck with the switch!

I use both pampers and huggies. The dry max can cause a rash but not on all babies. Dry max technology isn't in the infant diapers anyway. I prefer the pamper swaddlers for small babies because they're the softest. Target's private label diapers suck - they are made by a private label company and they're not as good as the knock-offs at Costco which are made by Kimberly Clark (Huggies). I would assume Sam's club private label are made by Kimberly Clark or P&G so they would be the equivilant to Huggies/Pampers. I'm 100% positive that Kimberly Clark makes the private label diapers at Costco. Sam's does sell the size 1-2 Pampers Swaddlers which is what I bought when my babies were little.

I think Dry Max is only on Cruisers. I use Pampers Baby Dry, and I don't believe they were changed to Dry Max. We started using Baby Dry with both of our kids as soon as they were too big for Swaddlers and have never had a problem with Baby Dry. They're also less expensive than Cruisers!

I used Target quite a bit. Their wipes were my favorite. Both Target and CVS had cloth-like wipes.

RE: Sams, I found it hard to pick out a diaper from the package one-handed (as I was holding my baby with the other hand). I found that Costo diapers were easier to open than Sam's. Costs were comparable between the two retailers. Don't bother with Costco wipes though. Too rough and thin.

I have a 14 month old boy and we LOVE the Target Up & Up brand for him. We have tried Huggies, Kirkland Brand from Costco (also great), Pampers (he was in one of the dry max ones for an hour and his rear end was bleeding) and the Walmart brand. Target Up & Ups have never given him a rash, he has never leaked and fit well. At night however we have found the Huggies Overnites in one size bigger than his day diapers to be the best.

I used Pampers on my son (now 4 years) and I am currently using Pampers on my daughter (5 months). I think they work great! I won't however, buy the diapers with DRY MAX. You can still just get Papmers Baby Dry or Sensative. They don't have the "dry max" formula in them.
My husband used to use genenric diapers (wal-mart) for his daughter during the day and then a name brand at night. He said that worked just fine too.

I've had no bad experiences whatsoever with the Pampers. In fact, we've tried a lot of generics lately because my husband is umemployed and diapers are just expensive. And just about all of them leaked. I finally broke down and went and got the cheaper Pampers again. The only ones I found worked as well as Pampers was the Kirkland diapers from Costco, but we don't have a membership there and they are actually a little more expensive buying them the way I was (from diapers.com) then buying the diapers in the store in the bigger boxes and using a coupon. I even tried the Huggies overnights and they even leaked DURING THE DAY.

Edited to add...the Target diapers were pretty good but they are sized a little smaller and my son is in a 6, so there isn't a bigger size. I think if they had been a little bigger they probably would have worked for us. Also Luvs are fantastic for littler ones, just once they are running around they don't fit as well as Pampers.

I only used Pampers for both my kids until they changed to the Dry Max. It does not absorb as well, the diapers are thinner, lighter. I actually weighed the old kind and new kind. I would put them on my kids and in no time at all pee would be running out of the diaper. I switched to Target brand and would never and I mean never spend money on Pampers again. The Target are much better and a fraction of the cost. Try them and you will see for yourself.

I use the Walmart Brand Parents Choice. They changed their diapers and it now says compare to Pampers. They work great. I also Targets brand and love them also. I switch back and forth between the two. I also use the Target brand wipes. No need to spend the extra money on Pampers.

I used Pampers for my first, and when my second was about 6 months, I decided on a lark to try Target brand. They are great - I've never had a single leak. I haven't bought Pampers since then. I can only highly recommend Target brand.

I have used Pampers with my first (no Dry Max then) and now for my second (with Dry Max). My 2nd son has had no rash and he actually has less diaper rash than my first son. We have not had any substantial leaks or blow outs either. I love Pampers but am thinking of switching to Generic too because of cost. Thanks to whoever gave the tip about Amazon delivery - I may try that instead of switching.

We used Huggies for my son and bought them in bulk at Costco to save money. He has always been very tall and lean and always, always leaked through Pampers (even as a newborn at the hospital). They just didn't fit him right but that's not to say that they won't fit your son. I think you'll have to experiement with different brands and see what works best for you.

Congratulations and good luck!

I haven't used diapers for a while so I might be out of the mix, but....
I loved Kroger brand and Target brand. I hated Huggies and Pampers.
Huggies always left a rash and pampers always left gel things everywhere. I tried other generic but only found that Kroger - comforts and Target (green package) were fantastic.

I have a son and I LOVE the target brand diapers. I think lots of people are using them now because they have gone up in price about 5 times since I started using them over the last year. I sometimes will get coupons for them at the register. (the automatic ones that come out with your receipt.) Try them, I think you will love them! I wouldn't use the dry max either.

Good luck!

Hi! I have a 1 year old boy and exclusively use Pampers. He hasn't developed any type of rash from the switch to dry max. I recently signed up for the Amazon delivery program and I'm saving 30% off the price of the diapers and wipes. I love the diapers and Amazon!
Congrats on the new baby.

I use Pampers Cruisers in the day, and Pampers nighttime diapers for my son and have never had any problems. Before he was crawling around I used the regular Pampers, not sure if they were Dry Max or not. I did keep an eye out when I heard about the diaper rash issues, but it was fine.

I tried Huggies when he was younger (he's now 14 mths) but he always leaked out of them.
