Diaper Rash - Euless,TX

My 9 month old son started to get a diaper rash on Sunday, but nothing to serious. Yesterday and today, it has gotten very red. We have been using Desetin Overnight Formula and Balmex since Sunday and it doesn't seem to be getting much better. Is there anything else that works? Any home remedies that might help him. The look on his poor little face when we change him, makes me so sad.

What can I do next?

One of the best things that has worked for my kids and was doctor recommended is Lotrium (I think thats how you spell it). Its a foot fungi cream. You can buy the store brand (walGreens) and it works just as well. My kids would get a rash sometimes that looked like someone had rubbed their skin raw and this stuff works fast. Starts clearing up by the next day.

Dr Smiths is the best diaper rash cream in the world. Ok, maybe there are better ones somewhere out there, but I have not found anything better!!! It is higher than Desitin, but well worth the money!

Try Aquaphor.

I think it is the absolute best for diaper rash. I was amazed how well it worked the first time I tried it.

Good luck!

Hi A.,

A quick remedy that I have used if I needed something quick like this is Boudreaux's Butt Paste. You can get it at Wal-mart. One other thing that I love is from Arbonne. It is amazing. This is something you have to get a consultant for. I hope this helps & I hope your little guy gets better quickly.

my daughter had horrible diaper rashes to the point of open wounds and the only thing that worked-the miracle cure- was boudreaux's butt paste- you can get a huge tub of it at sam's for really cheap. the great thing is that you can also use it for cuts, bites and just about anything else for the whole family!

Hi A.! That's so sad about your baby boy - that's the worst! We had the same problem with our little girl so I did some research online and discovered that she had a diaper yeast infection - little red bumps. If you search online, you can find pictures to compare - when we saw them it was exactly what she'd had for a week or two. We purchased an over-the-counter vaginal yeast cream - clotrimizole - put that on the rash and then covered it with diaper cream, to help keep it in place. The rash was gone the next morning. (We just self-treated this one with no consult from a doctor - just our personal, at-home remedy.)

Hope he heals quickly! Have a great weekend!

Call your local Walgreen's & see if they have or can get you some "Domeboro." It is a powder you put in water & let them soak in it for 15 min./ 1-2 times a day. I used to put my oldest in the kitchen sink. That w/ Bordeaux or even Aquaphor will clear it up QUICKLY! And take the sting away almost instantly.

I had a similar problem with my one year old-- tried Desitin, Balmex, and Boudreaux's butt paste, with no results. She cried and cried every diaper change. I took her to the dermatologist (I work for the derm!!) and he said it wasn't a diaper rash, but a yeast infection!! Gave me samples of a medicine called Vusion cream and it was GONE in two days! Looked just like diaper rash to me, except it spread further out onto her thighs and was EXTREMELY red. I know it's possible for a little boy to get a yeast infection too, so you might ask his doc.
Good luck!

I second the Boudreaux's Butt Paste. It was recommended by my Ped. you can also find it at Target. You may also want to leave him bare bottom so the area can get some air. You will have to block off a safe area for him with towels or blankets in case of accidents but that should bring some relief as well.

I use Boudreaux's Butt Paster. It's about $11 for a 4 oz. tube, but it's worth it. I use it every time I change my daughter's diaper, and it prevents diaper rash. The one time she did get diaper rash, it got rid of it in like 24 hours - after only an hour and a half, it was already less red. I get mine at Kroger, but I know you can get it at Target too. Their website is www.buttpaste.com.
