I agree I only change him if he has poop to help prevent diaper rash. If you change him quickly and quietly he may not even wake up, or may go right back to sleep after some rocking.
Do you wake your baby up to change his diaper? For instance, he falls asleep after feeding and you know he needs to be changed. Do you try to change him or wait til he wakes up or fusses?

I used to make a point of changing his diaper before feeding him, even in the middle of the night for this very reason! A friend suggested it and it made sense. It's worth enduring the extra 2 minutes of crying to be able to nurse & cuddle them back to sleep with a dry diaper and go back to sleep yourself!
After the first month or so (or whenever the begin pooping just a couple of times a day) I pretty much stopped the nighttime changes unless baby pooped or was soaked. My kids rarely needed a diaper change in the middle of the night, and I found that it just made it more difficult for them to go back to sleep.
I do agree with Krista, if you know you're going to have to change them in the middle of the night, do it before they eat.
Unless he has a diaper rash or you can smell poop, do NOT wake a sleeping baby!
Are you breastfeeding? I used to change my kids' diapers (or hand him to my husband to) between sides. That way if they fall asleep on the 2nd side, it was okay. Also, it helped greatly when they would fall asleep before getting to the other side.
My son just started drinking water regularly, but only before bed. I'll change his pamper while he's sleeping, if is full in the middle of the night. Most of the time he doesn't wake up. Lol
I didn't wake my kids unless they had a poopy or very wet diaper. Diapers are designed to pull wetness away from the skin, so if it's only a little wet it should be fine =)
DO NOT wake a sleeping baby for a wet diaper change unless they fuss. Poop is a different story but unless you know it is there don't go constantly checking. I have followed this protocol since my baby was born and she is not 25 months and mostly potty trained. She's only had diaper rash 1 time in her like (knock wood)! Good luck!
if its poop yes waking him/her to change it definatly. but if its just a bit soggy and you know he is only going to sleep for a bit and he wont leak out of it then no waking for a little pee. unless he just barley fell asleep and you can put him back to sleep quickly.
when our babies were newborns they would wake we changed and fed then burped and put back to bed...only to do it an hour later ;) if they did poop after the first change we did change that diaper right away again even if it stirred him awake. diaper rash is not fun!
It depends on how old your baby and what he is eating? My son was exclusively breastfed for 8 months and he had BM at every feeding even at night until he was 8 weeks and as he got bigger he would occasionally still have a BM at night. If you know for sure that he is not going to have a BM movement at night and if he is the right weight/age then Huggies do a fantastic overnight diaper. My son would go 14 hours sometimes with this diaper and no leaking at all. My son's BM did not have a smell and we would not know until we opened his diaper and I was worried about diaper rash then at bed time in addition to the overnight diaper I would literally plaster his bottom with a thick diaper cream like Balmex so if he did poop his bottom had some protection.
I do if he's got BM or if he's completely soaked. May have to deal with some fussy ness and start all over trying to get him back to sleep but it sure beats having to deal with him being fussy for quite a longer time due to discomfort from a diaper rash.
If she wasn't soaked or messy, I'd let it ride, If I had to change her, I'd try to do it as gently as possible.
As great as diaper technology is, my son still gets a rash so unbelievably quick. So I try not to wake him while changing him anyway. But if he wakes up he will not go back to sleep and he is extremely moody. However, risking the consequence of waking him up is better than the pain he feels due to a diaper rash and the guilt I will feel.
It depends on the situation. If she just went, and is only a little wet I will let it go until she wakes up. BUT if she has a rash I will change her... Or if it's a poopy diaper, because my DD will get a rash from hell if I let her sit in her poop. If her diaper looks like it's ready to burst I will too. But in general, if she's asleep and letting her sleep in the diaper won't result in a rash or an unholy mess, it can go for the length of a nap. I do change her if she's going down for the night though, so she has a fresh diaper to pee in all night. lol.
