DH Needs Help with Muscle 'Knot' in His Back - Chiropractor Needed?

My DH has a persistent knot in his back that has now spread to his neck and it is definitely stress induced. Regular massages aren't really doing the trick, not to mention they are costly. Does anyone have a suggestion for what kind of dr. he should see or what kind of therapy he might need?

Thanks

I would suggest a Doctor (a DO not a MD) that specilizes in OMT. Most doctors (MD's For the most part) think is junk science but they think the same thing about chiropractors. I had OMT done recently and it got rid of chronic migrains I have been having for several years. My husband had OMT done on his back and it fixed a rib tat was out of place and causeing major back pain. For more information here is a website

I am no doctor, but I do know allot of things that you may not realize can be corrected with chiropractic care. If one bone in your spine is tilted or rotated just a hair, it could be touching a nerve that communicates with any part of your body and that would give you symptoms you would never think has anything to do with your spine. My friend is a chiropractor here in Melbourne. His name is Joe Strater with Watt Family Chiropractic. If you tell Joe that S. Edwards sent you, he will give you a free x-ray to detirmine if you need his care (as long as you have an appointment which cost $35). There number is ###-###-####.

Hi Megan,
If he has no known allergies to Advil (an over-the-counter pain reliever), then I would try this. I used to have knots when I used to work out frequently in Taekwondo (when I was younger). Occasionally, I get them when I stress my muscles picking up my young children. My husband is a doctor and recommended to take Advil, which works to reduce inflammation - first take every four hours and he should see results within the first day or two of use. Quit after knot goes away. I know the pain your describing and it definitely spreads to neck. I don't know much about Chiropractors and so I hope not to offend anyone by this method of quick fix. This is just what I do and my husband does when this happens to us.
Sincerely,
C.

Thats something I hear all day long! I run a Chiropractic and Physical Therapy office here in Boynton. We deal with that sort of stuff all the time! Its called Boynton Health and Wellness. We also have a west palm office (Hope Health & Wellness ... military between southern and belvedere)and PBG office as well. My office is on the SE corner of Hypoluxo and Congress ( Winn Dixie shopping center) It sounds like a few visits to the Chiropractor will do the trick. We take almost all ins. and cash accounts too! I answer the phone around here so if you call let me know its you! That is if were in your area. ###-###-#### is our phone and our doctors are Andrew Hope, DC and Jeffrey Zipp, DC. I hope everything works out!

I don't know where you are, but I'm in Clermont and my Chiropractor is amazing!!! I go to Dr. Paul Sorchy, but all the DC's in his office are great. There are sooo many things that can be healed through chiropractic care because they get things back where they are supposed to be and then let your body heal itself as it was meant to.

Good luck!

I know that you said massage has not helped yet but i have been doing massage therapy for 6 years and I think that maybe he just has not found the reight therapist. I will not force myself on you but I am VERY confidant in the work that I do.
Chiropractors work really great as well. I do suggest going to one that will treat his soft tissue before adjusting him. But treating soft tissue I mean wither using moist heart and or electric muscle stimualtion. many Chiros have LMTs on staff, it ofetn wroks well to get a massge and or EMS, with heat, then have the DR. adjust his back.
Good luck, I hope he finds releif from his pain very soon. :)

If you're in the West Palm Beach area my brother is a chiropractor. They will probably need to do an x-ray and those types of things. Depending on your insurance, it should be pretty much completely covered. They have chiropractors, massage therapists, and physical therapists on sight. I went there for adjustments and massages during my pregnancy and all was covered (including the hour massage I got twice a week!). If nothing works after that they will refer him to a specialist. The website is centralpalmbeachphysicians.com and my brother's name is Dr. Mair. Good luck.
PS... if you don't have insurance they will work with you... oh and tell him Nikki sent you!

I have a terrible stress induced knot in my left shoulder that causes pain and pulls on my neck which in turn pulls on my jaw. I have problems with jaw pain (which I was told is TMJ) because my jaw got knocked out of place a few years back after a fall (due to a seizure). In other words, I'm falling apart. However, I've found that lots of heat and strong pain medication (I use Vicodin [sp?]) immediately followed by a very strong massage tends to help. Also, visualizing the knot disappearing tends to help me. Meditation works so much better than most people realize. If that doesn't work then I would check into the other more expensive treatments.

Hi Megan-

I had a very similar issue for 20+ years. I finally have relief and have been pain-free for 7 months due to treatments I received early this year from Dr. Ryan Alter in Delray Beach. He is not a typical "back snapper". There is a customized and very patient specific treatment and the premise of his chiropratic is to treat the upper cervical/neck area because if you are off your axis, it basically throws the whole back out of alignment. For what it is worth, I just referred my father also who has sciatic and herniated disk issues and has suffered for years. He is doing amazing after one treatment. Good Luck!

I had this too - the knots actually covered my whole back - and they are definitely knots, you can feel them! Anyway, I went to the chiropractor and he had me lay face down on a table, then the attach these little electronic pads to the knots that give electrical stimulation to each spot - they left the machine on for awhile and covered me with a warm blanket. It took a few sessions, because I literally had knots ALL OVER my back - but it did work. I do recommend it. Most insurance covers it.
