M.R.
I think I meet all the requirements - I know you are on a tight schedule so the biggest issue is going to be finding the time to meet you - let me know if I can help.
M. - Mother of two - 8 year old son, 6 year old daughter.
Hi Mama's,
Sorry to send this again, but we got almost no response the first time around. I don't need advice, but my daughter DOES need help. She really needs volunteers so she can complete her science fair project on time. Here are the details, at risk of me getting booted off this site (we're that desperate!)
Here's a copy of her flier:
Adult Volunteers Needed to Participate in 9th Grader’s Science Fair Project
Please help me out! I am studying learning processes in the brain through spelling. My goal is to find alternative neurological pathways that may be productive for learning spelling and improving the transference of information into long term memory because the methods currently used in schools do not work for about 20% of the population.
This study will be conducted through email, so you must have access to a computer with internet access, a sound card and speakers.
All participants will remain anonymous and must sign a waiver.
The study protocol:
Part 1:
1. Take a pretest of normal English words to determine general spelling ability (you’ll receive a recording made in Microsoft Word).
2. Fill out a short questionnaire
3. Take a pretest of 20 pseudo words (made up words). All will follow standard English regular and irregular spelling rules.
4. Study the words according to the directions once a day for 4 days. (Approximately 20 mins/day.)
5. Take a posttest of the 20 words
6. Repeat steps 3 – 5 with a different set of words and study directions over 5 more days.
You must meet all of these criteria to participate in this study:
• You are between the ages of 18 and 65
• You are a native English speaker
• You have normal vision (corrected vision by glasses, contacts, laser surgery, etc., is OK)
• You have normal hearing (corrected hearing using a hearing aid is OK)
• You do not have a diagnosed learning disability
• You have never suffered a brain injury (trauma, stroke, etc.)
If you are interested in participating please contact me at
____@____.com.
I will only be enrolling volunteers until February 15, 2008. The study will begin on Feb. 16 and end by Feb. 25 so please respond quickly!
I’m trying to enroll a lot of people in a short amount of time, so please pass this information to a few of your friends.
Thank you for your help and your time.

I sent a reply to the email address listed and will be happy to help by participating.
Good luck!
hi, R.!! I would love to help but I am not a native English speaker. I'm originally from Brazil . I'm sorry, just hope you can get all the volunteers you need..
hey there,
your best bet for this is on craig's list.
and you also might want to contact a professor at UCLA to see if they would be willing to help get some of their students on board with this as it sounds well thought out!
my guess is that very busy moms want to yak at the thought of having to study anything, esp. if they have school-aged children: they are already doing LOTS of homework.
go for college crowd...
good luck,
-A.
