My two year old daughter has a rash that came up a while back. Her doctor treated her for scabies a few times and it didn't go away. Recently it has gotten worse so i took her back last week and the doctor said that it could've been a small case of chicken pox and told me to get some caladryl and if it wasn't better to call back. Well it is worse and this morning I called back and they are wanting to treat it as scabies again. My daughter is on Medicaid and I need to figure something out soon!! Besides her itching now me and my husband are now itching but it doesn't look the same as hers.

What can I do next?

Hi D.,

Ask for a blood test. It took 4 doctors to tell me that my son had chicken pox. They said it was everything from a staph infection to scabies. I kept telling them that it looked like chicken pox since I had just had them a few months prior. After all the doctors got together and decided to do blood work they found out it was chicken pox. Sometimes they can't tell just by looking, they need to do a blood test.

my boys are on medicad too. so i know the feeling. anyways try finding another doctor in the book and get a second opinion. if you have to get a note from one of your regular doctors and get a suggestion from them on another doctor.

I would ask for her to be seen by a dermetoligist my son had a rash that wont go away and they found out it was a viral infection that lastest from 6 months to 6 years and the only way it is contagious is if the any of the bumps are busted and you come in contact. they put something on him that made them bubble up and fall off. but his normal dr couldnt figure out what it was it was the dermetoligist that did.

I would see a dermatogolist. It sounds like your doctor doesn't know what it is and is just grasping at straws. My son has had eczema for 9 years now and it still often looks like a rash. A dermatologist is use to looking at the skin and rashes.

Good luck.

Ask your doctor to refer you to a dermatologist. They would be better at diagnosing a skin problem.
