my step dad was on this and it was horrible. he was falling asleep while at the table and even while driving then not remember doing it. please be careful with this one!
I am wondering if anyone has any experiences or any information about celexa. I was given the generic brand for this, citalopram. I have never taken an anti-depressant before and im just curious how it worked for others..side effects..symptoms..etc.

Read all the possible side effects.... is it worth it?? Get a good stress related vitamin and add a B12. Get out and play with that beautiful 6 year old. Pray... you will not need the prescription pill... stay focused on all the good in your life. Good luck and God Bless..
I know of some great natural alternatives to depression medications that work very well :)
Sam E (all natural vitamin. Not only good with depression but especially great with anxiety and stress)
Niacin (Excellent with severe depression. vitamin. Take as much as you need to get the results you need)
Cashews (believe it or not, 2 handfuls of these nuts per day also helps with depression)
Hi K.,
Most depression is caused from a lack of nutrition, not necessarily from not being consumed, but definitely not being absorbed. The brain relies totally on what goes into the body. I have no personal experience with antidepressants but I have helped friends wean themselves off of them. One of my best friends is a psychologist and he is now strictly anti-drug because of the side effects he has seem in his patients.
I know you have a LOT on your plate but anti-depressants tend to exacerbate depression and you cannot simply quit them once you start. Slow weaning is necessary. There are natural ways to avoid symptoms (my entire extended family is "high-strung" and they are all drug takers. I found a way to counteract all those emotions naturally.)
Not knowing how you will react with no one at home to bounce things off of is probably not something I would try. If you decide not to take any meds I'll be glad to give you the 411 on a natural route. Let me know!
God bless,
M.
I have been on Celexa (citalopam) for about 4 months with good success. I started out with 20 mg daily then upped it to 40 mg about 3 weeks ago & have not had any problems with it. I was on Welbutrin but when my husband lost his job our insurance was gone & Clexa is on the $4 list at most grocery stores/pharmacies. The reason I upped it was they start me on a lower dose to see how I did then advised me to double it in about 6 weeks. Well I waited longer due to forgetfulness and when I doubled it for 2 weeks I called & told them I was fine so they upped the dosage. That is common practice especially when you're on them for the 1st time.
If you start having worse symptoms or thoughts of harming yourself or others don't be ashamed to seek help. I don't even know if that's a side affect of this medicine but some it is. I've never had that happen to me before.
Good luck to you & I'm glad you're getting some help. Often we Mom's think we're weak if we have to get help like this, I think it's the opposite, that it takes great strength to admit you need a little help.
I have taken citalopram for a little over a year. I had heart palpations and stress from running a house with a 6yr old, 3 yr old and full-time and overtime husband. He works alot but provides for us very well! My Dr put me on citalopram and it took the mad edge off. I found myself yelling alot and after several heart, blood, and stress tests we decided this was the best route. I'm a much happier Mom and Wife! I'm even nervous about asking to not take it....I don't want to go back to the short fused, angry mom. I only take 20mg and have taken advice from profesional counselors about parenting....most that I already used like counting to three, no emotion (and no yelling that has reminded me). It's working and I'm proud of it. I have a high energy boy 6 yrs old (border ADD) and a super quick girl 3yr old. Besides gaining and keeping on 10 pounds from the last 7 years I haven't noticed any side affects. LOL!
I've added some exercise but not regularly....yet. I hope for this to be a temporary adjustment to life but it definatly helps me get through the day.
I was a little skeptical but after my heart racing from anxiety I decided to give it a try and haven't looked back yet.
Take care and keep smiling

I have taken Celxa without any issues. I was put on it oddly enough for anxiety. (husband was deployed, in-laws came to town, holidays, being the only parent to do everything....no wonder I needed help)
I was on them for 6 months then was able to wean myself off without any problems. When I first started them I was extremely tired but that passed after a week or so.
Don't let it get you down that you have to take the meds...with God and the celxa you can get over this little hump in life...at least that is how I looked at it.
Take care
