My husband deployed when our first child was 1 1/2. I would keep a journal of what was happening or even email when it became available what our daughter was doing. I tried to capture moments on camera to send also. Remeber every child develops differently and at their own pace. YOu could also see if he can get on the baby center website to check on milestones.

Hi Mrs. P., I'm not really sure if you're pregnant or if your baby is born. But I will try to answer your question the best way that I can. My husband is about to go on his 5 deployment. We have 5 children. So I have some experience in this situation. I have given birth during his deployment (he was not home for it). I have had plenty of babies/toddlers during his deployment. Your spouse will pretty much miss everything. It is up to you, to make sure he doesn't. You can video tape everything your baby does. First words, first teeth, first step, first crawl, first time the baby uses a spoon. You can also use web cams or skypes. I also suggest, getting involve with the FRG (Family Readiness Group). Your FRG leader or key caller can give you resources. You can talk to them and hear what other mothers and fathers are doing? No one understands what you're going through better than them. Back to the subject at hand, also, tell your husband to call and let the baby hear his voice. Have your husband read or sing to the baby on a tape during those times when you can't talk to him on the phone or computer. I really hope this helps!

Get a video camera & record your baby's milestones & just fun things your baby does.

God bless!

First, I am so sorry your husband is having to serve another tour...as for the baby..they all do things on their on time..when they are ready..so it is hard to tell..if you have a webcam or some way to video tape what the baby does your hubby won't miss anything..

Only thing I can remember off the top of my head is my daughter was walking right at her first birthday. How old will your little one be when he leaves?

Thank you and your husband for his service! My husband is in the National Guard and has been to several schools, training, etc, and deployed once. It's harder with a kid who is old enough to miss Daddy & ask for him :(

If he will be able to get online, then you should both get Web cams so that you can all see each other! My daughter loves this for when her Daddy is gone.

We also got her a "Daddy Doll" (https://www.hugahero.com/) with a voice recorder. She loved to hear Daddy's message, and to hug her "Daddy". They also have photo pillows and other stuff.
