I don't permit my children to use any deoderant that has an aluminum component (many anti-perspirants do).
Frequent showers work well too.
Hello fellow mothers out there! I have an 8 yr old son and we are not positive but we think he may be starting to have some b.o. What age did you son/or daughter start using deodorant? Or what is an appropriate age?
Thank you all in advance!

Make yourself aware of the effects of aluminum used in deodorants.
If he smells, slap it on- teach it early, not waiting for a "right age". Any age is an appropriate age to teach hygiene.
My son is almost 8 and we thought the same thing so the next time he played outside I did a sniff test and it wasnt bad but it was a little funky, so we got him his own deoderant and he's so proud that he gets to put deoderant on. If its needed then its appropriate.

As soon as the child starts to smell i would start. Kids are all different... my one daughter started around 10, my oldest is almost 15 and still doesnt smell!
Your son is at the right age for becoming stinky. Wait until you have a car of boys headed for a T-ball game. By next year they will all smell bad.
We use Tom's of Maine deoderant. Non-aluminum and my son has been using since 8 yrs old. He likes the lavendar scented one, lol!
Mom,
Be sure he is showering/bathing daily. I loved when my daughters 4th grade teacher announced to the entire class after they returned from a hot day outside in PE that everyone needed considering starting to wear deodorant. Good luck Mom :D
My daughter was 8, almost 9 when I noticed she needed to wear it. I talked to her about washing good and gave it a week to see if after a few showers things changed. But they hadn't so I got her a stick of Teen spirit (don't know what they sell for young boys). She is now getting ready to turn 10 and uses it with no problem and even has a few friends that do too.
I made me sad knowing my baby needed it! lol Meant she was growing up :(
Good luck!
