Does anyone have any knowledge/experience with dental implants? I am looking very seriously at having my entire mouth done because of periodontal disease and the fact that I don't want to wear dentures.

What can I do next?

My sister got an implant after a tooth was broken. The doctor (highly recommended and respected) ground the tooth as a base in the gumline and the tooth got infected. It took multiple visits to get it fixed. She swore she wouldn't do it again.

I use a toothpaste that heals gum disease. My gums were receding and are no longer... PM me if you want some information.

you could being down a long road if you have periodontal disease. Implants are great but they can fall out. I am speaking from experience. a full mouth of implants are probably a waste of money. Just get partials. I know you don't want this but it could save you alot of money in the long run

My husband had one done. ONE tooth. It was in the neighborhood of $3,000.
It was worth it, to help preserve the integrity of the jaw structure where he had lost a tooth.

I had a co-worker many years ago who was young and had dental problems. I don't know the whys, but she ended up getting her entire mouth done. I think her grandmother paid for it for her. It was well over $10,000 (in the late 1990s). She seemed happy with the work afterwards.

You could get implant supported dentures. The denture is clipped to two implants. way cheaper, and a similar result. Each implant will cost around $4k, a full set of top and bottom will be around $2-3k. A full mouth of implants is not done very often.

I started getting an implant but then lost my job and the dentist that was supposed to do the crown would not cooperate--mad I did not have her do it in the first place. Anyway, for the implant, they put a screw into the jaw to act as the root, then a post and then a crown. It is expensive. Some dental offices now advertise they can do multiple teeth at once.
I plan to have the one tooth finished and then if I cannot fix another, a 2nd implant.

I've known a couple of people who have had 2 - 3 done and they seem to be very happy. But it is expensive!

I had a dental implant put in after I lost a tooth because of a failed root canal. It was recommended because they are supposed to last 20-30 years where bridges last 10-15 years. It doesn't damage the teeth on either side of the implant like a bridge. And there is very little pain associated with the procedure because the entire tooth nerve is removed with the extraction of the root of the other tooth. Insurance doesn't cover implants - I haven't found a single policy that does. It does cost about $3000 per tooth and mine was done under an injectable anesthetic. Very few dentists will do the entire mouth at once so it may involve several visits and sessions. The cost is just for the implant. After the gums heal after the implant you have to do a crown and the can be an additional cost. It doesn't stop periodontal disease. Just how it affects your teeth. I have periodontal disease and the gum tissue is still receding from the teeth, implant included. They are actually discussing a gingival graft because of it.
