Decent Hotels by World of Fun

I'm looking at a family vacation over to World of Fun this summer (we're in Chicago) and would love some fellow Mom helps in finding a decent hotel nearby. As I'm not familair at all with the area by World of Fun, I wasn't sure if there was a place to stay away from. I did see some hotels listsed as "downtown". Is that a mistake to stay at a downtown hotel? Would it be too conjested or harder to park? I didn't know how 'downtown' Kansas City was compared to Chicago. Personally, I'd never stay at a 'downtown Chicago' hotel because of the conjestion.

I'm looking for a good hotel under $100 a night but nothing like a Super 8. I have 2 small children and an elderly grandmother I'm traveling with. So, we need 2 rooms that aren't too pricey.

Also, any information or tips you can provide on the area, Worlds of Fun, discount tickets, etc is appreciated.

Thanks!
J.

So What Happened?

We recently go home from our trip to Kansas City and Worlds of fun/Oceans of Fun. First, THANK YOU to everyone on here who suggested staying in Liberty. This was the perfect location. less than 10 minutes to Worlds of fun and only a few minutes to the Crown Center. We stayed at the Fairfield Inn by Marriott. Nice hotel, small bathroom, good breakfast, decent price (98 a night!). My only complaint really about staying here was the pool was NOT heated! Very cold which made it hard for my kids, not to mention us adults, to enjoy.
Worlds of Fun was nice - perfect for one day, didn't need two. Went on a VERY hot day though - 100 degrees very high humidity. Rides were too hot to ride so we left and came back later in the evening. Oceans of fun was great - my kids really enjoyed the smaller slides and pools just for them. I do recommend going to Kansas city with your family!

All the posters have suggested Liberty, and I am to. I live just down the road from all those shops mentioned. There is also a movie theater just down the road from the walmart and target as well. It's called B and B...as for cheaper tickets the Price chopper in liberty usually has discounts. There are 2 price choppers in that area. But I would also check out WOF's website too. http://www.worldsoffun.com/

We have passes this year as well! We love WOF!

As we get closer they usually put out information on the WOF website about where to get discounts. There's a fitness center in Liberty (right next to WOF) that we have gotten discounted tickets at. There are several hotels in Liberty as well. I've stayed at the Super 8 over there and it's actually pretty nice. But there are others. There's also one or two across from WOF. I haven't checked them out since I live about 1/2 mile from WOF.

If you need someone that can watch the kids for awhile when they need a nap or so that the older family members can get some time on the rides without kids, email me. I run a 7/24 daycare here and have for 25 years.

Hi, we live in Liberty, which is about 10 minutes from WOF. We actually have passes that we get every year. Liberty is a nice area with a Walmart and Target in case you need something and a ton of resturaunts. There are several hotels, Google Liberty hotels and you should find something you like that will work with your budget.
If you want to stay closer, WOF has the cabins right next to OOF in the RV park. They look nice and are fairly new, a few years old. Not sure if you are interested in something like that.
Good luck and God Bless and I hope you have fun when you come.

I would stay at the hotels off of I-35 and 152 Hwy, it's just ten minutes up the highway from WOF. There is a Holiday Inn and a couple of others, one has an indoor pool. There is a Walmart, Applebees, Golden Coral, Cracker Barrel and McDonalds really close on one side of Highway 152. On the other side there is another hotel, there is a Super Target, Kohls, Bed Bath & Beyond, Chilis, Burger King, Steak and Shake, Longhorn, Waffle House, Jose Peppers. I would definitely reccomend staying here as there are more dining options once you are done with the park. If you stay at the hotesl across the street, there is not much at all around them but a Quicktrip and a Waffle House.

Good luck and have fun while you are in town.
