Dead Car Battery.

Okay, this might seem silly to some of you but I'm at a loss of what to do.

Apparently one of my kids got ahold of my keys and opened the trunk of my car. I only know this because as I was getting ready to go to the store earlier I walked outside and saw it was open, and the car wouldn't start. I'm not sure how long it was open, I'm guessing maybe 2-3 hours, 4 at the most. Here is the problem, my car is the first one pulled in our driveway, my husbands is behind mine. How can we hook up the jumper cables if he isn't anywhere near my hood? I thought about maybe trying to put the car in neutral and push it down the driveway and have him drive through our yard and try to get next to my car, (it won't be possible for his to get infront, we have a very narrow driveway that is right next to our house.) But even if he could get next to my car it won't be easy because we have a big tree right next to our driveway, and about 7 inches of snow right now. Ugh, this has really put a damper on my mood today, please help!

We can't afford to call someone, and don't belong to AAA.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone! My husband ended up taking his battery out so the cabels would reach like some of you suggested. The next day is was dead again...I ended up buying a new battery.

If they are similar cars can hubby move his car, take the battery out of his put in yours move your car closer to his, then switch batteries back and jump them? Or hubs can go to home depot and get a car battery charger, that is external and can charge your battery

yep, do what Anna said, take the battery from hubby's to yours, jump it & you'll be good to go! (forget about lining up vehicles, just use the battery on the ground, it will have enough juice to do it without the car running)

Well, did you know there are things that will jump your car without jumper cables? You can buy them at any auto supply store. My neighbor keeps one in her car at all times in case of emergency and I've borrowed it. You don't need two cars. Tow truck drivers carry them.

I don't know what to tell you to do in this situation, but get one of those handy little gadgets for next time. They more than pay for themselves.

Best wishes.

If none of these work for you, you can always take the battery out of the car and take it to your auto parts store and have them charge it. They do it for free.

You need to go to your mechanic, or local gas station and get a jumper box. I have a station on the corner and he let us use his. This just happened to me. My car was first in line and right up to the gate and my hubby was able to charge it. Good luck!!

The cables you buy are usually not very long - but you can make a set of jumper cables long enough to reach from one battery to the other when cars are parked like that! All you need is the clamps and the correct length of cable (like welding cable - something heavier than standard jumper cables). I have a set of these that were made by some friends at work - cause they said any time anybody needs a jump, they are usually pulled into a spot and there won't be a space around them to pull a jump into - so this way, they could pull up behind the car! Let me tell you, those cables have gotten a work-out or two a couple of times! (one time on vacation in Nashville - several folks had cars that needed jumps - guy was willing but he had no cables - he about fell over at mine - and I went to each car just to make sure I got the things back!)

pull the battery out of his car to jump yours or go get a trickle charger.

Hi,

I am glad you got it fixed Just something to keep in mind. If you ever need to replace your car battery buy it at Costco. I think they have a three year warranty on the battery (it has a little sticker on it to tell you the moth and year). What happens if it dies and you have to keep charging it, then just take it back to Costco and they will replace it for free! Then the warranty starts again! It is not fraud because you purchased the battery and they set the warranty.

If one if your neighbors belongs to AAA they could call. Can you push it into the street? Then your husband can get in front and jump it that way?
