Daylight savings...or More like Lost?

With the clocks set 1 hr behind, my little one wakes up an hour early daily, despite going to bed 1 hr later each evening. I thought by her going to bed an hr later than what she was used to, she would get up an hour later the next day.

She goes to bed at 8pm and used to wake up at 8:30am. Now she gets up at 7:00 am. She has about a 1.5-2 hour nap during the afternoon.

For you experienced moms, do they adapt to the new time, or they continue to wake up an hour earlier till it's time to set the clocks forward?

What can I do next?

7:00 ain't bad!! My little ones have been getting up at 6. I have just not been going in their rooms and slowly the time has been getting later and later.

I told me 2 1/2 that mommy wakes up at 7 and I put a notecard with 7:00 on it next to her clock so whe knows when she can call for mommy. It has worked. My 11 month old just plays in her crib until I come to get her.

HI Maya,

I am a mom of 3(13, 4-1/2 and 2-1/2) and it's been my experience that they just adapt to the time change. It could be that your daughter is not getting enough sleep. At her age, she needs about 13 to 13-1/2 hours of sleep in a 24 hour peroid. Unlike adults who get sleepy when we lose sleep, little ones actually get more wound up and have more insomnia if they lose sleep. Sleep begets sleep, so just make sure she's getting enough during the day.

She will adjust.Keep her on her regular schedule.
She should be back on schedule in about a week.

Both my four year old and my three month old are doing awakening an hour earlier this week as well...Honestly it has been my experience that it takes them about a week to get used to the time change, whether or not you put them to bed an hour later. I know I also awake about an hour earlier for the week as well. Good luck and go to bed earlier to catch up.

I have put my kids to bed at the regular time no matter if the time has changed. My oldest daughter (8 yrs old) is waking up earlier and going to bed on her own earlier. The other 3 have not been affected by the time change.

My daughter that is waking up earlier usually takes about 2 weeks to get back into the pattern of normal time and sleep.

Just give it some time and they will adjust.

Mine are doing the same thing, despite having curtains that block the light. I do not recall this happening in the past (mine are 2 1/2 and 4 yrs). Let's hope this phase ends quickly...

I feel as though im going through the same thing, except my son started the earlier wake up about a week prior to the time change. He would sleep 11 hrs...usually 8pm - 7am, then he started sleeping 8-5, i put him to bed at 9 now, and hes still up at 5 or 530. I will be watching this post to see any suggestions u may get...good luck.

Hi Maya,

It takes a while to adjust to setting the clocks back, but I have been putting my 4 kids down 1/2 hour later than their usual bedtime to speed up the process b/c waking up at 5:30am just doesn't appeal to me. Each day they have been getting up 10-15 minutes later. Woo Hoo!

My Daughter 10 mths adjusted herself the very first day. Her ususal time for getting up is 6:30. After the daylight saving she got up at 6:45 (the chnaged time) :-)

I did put her to bed at 8:00 1/2 hr later than her regular time of 7:30.

All the best!!
