My two year old daughter has fine straight hair and her scalp is quite dry. It is not dandruff, but just dry. I don't think conditioner would help. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I've always found putting oil in the hair (rubbing into the scalp as well as applying all over the hair as well) and leaving for a few minutes before a bath helps A LOT!!
You can do this once a week too. I use plain olive oil sometimes and its great!

If by chance you are using baby shampoo on her still...my advice is to stop. Both of my kids' hair and scalp dried out after a certain age when I was still using the baby shampoo. It is very drying. Now I use my product (Aveda) on my daughter and my husbands (American Crew) on my son. Neither of them has had any more problems. (and I have never had an issue with it getting in their eyes and burning)
Good luck!

Hi Sara,
If you're still using Baby Shampoo and your daughter has hair it will dry out her scalp.

We use "Circle of Friends" shampoo and conditioner for my 2 and 3 year old and it almost immediately solved the dry skin problem for both of my kids when we began using it. We bought it at Cool Cuts 4 Kids in Orland Park. The hair stylist told us how the Baby Shampoo really dries out kids' scalps if it is used in toddlerhood. My husband thought she was just trying to peddle her shampoo products, but I'm so glad we bought it!!

Good luck!!

Melaleuca, The wellness company has a great herbal shampoo with tea tree oil which is excellent for dry scalp. Let me know if you want to try it and I can tell you how to get it.

I found a great way to deal with this problem. Shampoo's will only make her scalp drier. I use regular grapeseed oil, avocado oil will do the trick too. Massage a few drops into their scalp, it will loosen the crustiness, you can let it be for a while then rinse or not. Try not to overdo or it will get real greasy, just a little bit over time will do the trick. The scalp massage is a great relaxer for them too.

My daughter had the same problem. I don't know what kind of shampoo you use but I switched to a childrens shampoo instead of a baby all in one. Her scalp almost looked like she had cradle cap which she didn't when she was a baby. I saw a difference in about 2 weeks. Maybe that will help you too!

I use pure lavender oil from the healthfood store. Maybe try a few drops on the hairbrush. Sometimes I rub some into my scalp in the evening and wash my hair in the morning.

Dear Sara,

My daughter is two and has the same problem. I started using lotion with aloe in it and I do this about once a week. I put it one for a couple of hours before bath. Sometimes even over night. Sometimes she will come to me and ask for it. Good Luck.

When my children were very young, my pediatrician recommended Olive oil rubbed onto the dry scalp after their bath. It helps!

I dont see why it wouldnt work for your 2 year old, too.

Good Luck!

I market a very natural baby shampoo. It was developed by a scientist for his young children. I use it to make my own wipes as well, and I even bathe my dogs in it.
