Daughters Jaw Cracking?

I took my kids to the movies tonight to see diary of a wimpy kid and half way through the movie my 7 year old says to me "mom my jaw is cracking" and she opened her mouth and it made a really loud crack! Why would it be doing that? Now, when I was 19 I was in a very bad car accident and I hit my face on the steering wheel and fractured my cheek bone. I ended up with TMJ and my jaw would crack ALL the time from that. But, nothing traumatic has ever happened to her. Is this something I should ask her dr. about? or is it just normal sometimes?
Thanks!

So What Happened?

ok I'll ask her dentist about it. She does tend to grind her teeth when she is sleeping, so that could be why. It just suprised me since it has never happened before to her and I think she was also pretty suprised by it. Thanks!

My daughter complains about her jaw cracking all the time. She has TMJ. Dentist is a good idea.

I'd see a chiropractor personally!

I have TMJ, but never had a traumatic injury. Does she grind her teeth in her sleep, or clench her jaw? The dentist made me a mouth guard to wear to sleep to stop me from grinding my teeth.

I've had it come and go all my life, so I think it's sort of normal for some people.

My jaw cracks sometimes too! It's very random. I don't know why it happens and it doesn't hurt. Maybe we should google it lol!!!

I had TMJ before I was ever in an accident or my started using me as a punching bag. You don't have to have an injury to have a cracking jaw/TMJ. She probably grinds her teeth or clenches her jaw.

Talk to her dentist the next time she's in there. At this age, I wouldn't take her to a chiropractor. They're going to to want to strip the muscles in the jaw to stop it from happening. It works wonderfully, but it's extremely painful! I wasn't even able to do it. I had to have him stop because I was in tears and it hurt too bad. (And I gave birth naturally...twice.)
