Daughter Won't Brush Her Teeth

My daughter will be 3 in May. The past few months she refuses to brush her teeth. She used to be so good with it and then she just lost interest. We've tried buying her new tooth brushes, letting her pick one out, "special" sponge bob tooth paste, etc. Nothing is working. She'll say that she wants to brush them, but as soon as she gets started, she says she's done and refuses to let us help. The baby toothpaste we have, she just sucks it off the brush. Any help would be so welcomed. I don't want her to have future dental problems.

What can I do next?

I've had some luck with brushing my teeth at the same time. I let her 'brush' my teeth and then I get a turn to brush hers. It's like a game to her and at the same time she seems to be learning what it takes to be a good brusher.
Good luck!! We have fought MANY teeth battles over here!

S., you might have to brush her teeth for her. A few times a week I end up brushing my two years olds teeth (both of them). If they don't want to, they're to young to reason with, so I just do it.
Eventually they'll start brushing their teeth themselves. Til then mami will do it :)

My dentist told ME to brush the children's teeth until they are about 6. Their fine motor skills and bone/wrist development prevent them from doing a proper job until about that age.

So, I've always done it for them until about first grade, just to be sure.

Hi S. i like the idea about taking turns. Sometimes they get bored with doing what needs to be done. Just let her know big girls brush their teeth. Do you take her to the dentist yet? i started taking all of mine when they were two and they all love to brush their teeth. Try a pediatric dentist they afre very kid friendly and it may help to encourage her to do at home what they do at the dentist. Good luck Steph
