Daughter with VUR Seeking Help!

Hi Moms! I am looking for some advice. I have previously written about my little girl with VUR. She is 5 years old now and her Dr. wants her on antibiotics for another year! At his point, I'm concerned that she will build up immunities to the antibiotics. What if she gets really sick? Am I crazy, or does 2 years on antibiotics seem excessive?

I am hoping someone can recommend a good pediatric urologist in the West Valley. We live in Surprise. We have been through 2 VCUG tests at Phoenix Children's Hospital and both times she got infections right after the procedures. Has anyone been through this that can help me understand what I should do? I just think antibiotics are not the answer and I desperately want my little girl to feel better.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

What can I do next?

hi K....

while i'm not familiar with VUR, your concerns of the antibiotic therapy are completely understandable...

personally, my family has received the most help from naturopathic md's (nmd's) versus traditional md's - traditional medicine tends to treat the symptoms rather than getting to the root of the problem - afterall, pharmaceutical companies are big business, and natural medicine isn't the standard in medical school...

to get a second opinion, i would highly recommend calling a naturopathic md to find out what their treatment would be for VUR... my doc is dr brian archambault of west valley naturopathics in avondale - http://www.westvalleynaturopathiccenter.com - they may refer you to a specialist, but i always seek out their advise first... better to FIX the problem than just put a band-aid on it!

while i didn't find anything about VUR, a good natural medicine resource is http://www.naturalnews.com

best wishes to you and your family,

G.

Hi K....I was at the urologist this past week and noticed a children's urologist next door. I have one of the best I have been told, and all of them in the office are very good. I have not been to the children's one, but I will give you the number of mine, and you may want to call and ask questions and get the number of the other one.
It's Canyon State Urology-5757 W. Thunderbird Rd. Suite E46, Glendale. ###-###-####.
I have sisters who have been on antibiotics too long and have become immune, so I know it is possible.
Wishing you the best with your little one. Let me know if I can help at all.

My daughter also has VUR. She's only 4 months old, but the naturopathic doctor said we can do graprefruit seed extract instead. Because she's exclusively breastfed and won't take a bottle, we're having a hard time with how to give it to her. For a 5 year old, you might be able to use it instead much easier. I recommend talking to a naturopathic doctor. We see Dr. kail at arizona advanced medicine.
