Toddler Daughter's First Birthday

I would keep it simple....they won't remember anything. I had family only at my 1st year old parties. Save the princess stuff for later when they will actually be asking and enjoying it!

My daughter turned one last spring. We ordered decorations from 1stwishes.com, which is under the parent company celebrateexpress. They have the cutest stuff and you can buy packages depending on the number of kids. For the parents who say, she won't remember it...That may be true but 1st Birthdays are a celebration of the child's 1st year of life. And isn't it all about the memories and the photo's. I still look at pictures from my 1st birthday, and I'm glad that my mom captured those memories for me. I say, if a nice party is in your budget, go for it. Who are we to tell a proud mom, not to go all out for her child, the kid only turn's one once.

my son just turned one this month and because all the kids who were invited are older we had the party at chuck e cheese. they have the enclosed area for the smaller kids, everyone had fun, and the best part.... no clean up or set up!!! :) you could still do a princess theme and bring your own cake and gift bags! :)

In my opinion, a baby's first birthday = a date night for mom and dad, to celebrate getting through that memorable first year. Reaffirming your relationship with your partner will do your little one 10 times more good than some fancy party she'll never remember.

Besides, if you have a princess theme now, what in the world are you going to do when she's five? Rent Radio City Music Hall?

Definitely do what you feel comfortable, but remember that at 1, your child will NOT remember this party so I would advise not going overboard. Trust me, there will be plenty of time to go overboard when she's older. :-)

If your daughter likes animals you might want to consider a petting zoo, the zoo or the aquarium. If you're talking themes then maybe something like the Disney Princesses. Happy first b-day to your little one. I love celebrating birthdays and always make sure to have a good time too. I always check out birthdaypartyideas.com they have every theme you can think of. It's a website where parents wrote all about how and what they did for their kids parties and it specifies the ages so check it out and read the 1yr old entries. They are full of great ideas. Wow. How exciting.

I did a princess party for my youngest daughter's first birthday. We had a cake shaped like a castle for the guests, and made my daughter her own tiny princess cake using a Kelly doll and a cupcake which was decorated to look like a dress for the princess.

We decorated everything with pinks and purples. It was really sweet and a lot of fun.

Remember to keep it simple, though. Just family and close friends. Your little one may be intimidated by all the hoopla. It's a great time to celebrate, but keeping it simple will ensure that everyone has a good time.

BTW, Family Fun magazine is a great resource for party ideas, as well as day to day activities for children of all ages.

What I am about to offer may read selfish...we actually did an tail party for our son's 1st birthday! All of his friends were over with their parents (our friends too) and we offered fund new bottles or sippy cups for the kids and fun tails for the s...we had a make your own buffet. The parents loved it and the kids just did their own thing and played with one another. Our son is allergic to any milk and dairy products so this was a way to still have something festive without the depression of no cake. We still offered cupcakes though. At 1yr. the kids are still so limited with how much stimulation they can handle that we decided just to do something that would be more fun for the s and it makes a great story.

1st birthday? You know she won't remember ANY of it?!!! To me, a first birthday is more for the family and friends to celebrate the child's birthday. More of an adult party if anything! I would save money on princess decorations, wait 2 more years for that, and buy extra dips and wine! It DEFINATELY is a time to celebrate!
