So What Happened?

Thanks everyone. Well the doc said that the hair was falling out due to tension from her hair being up in a ponytail, and told me not to put it up for about 2 months. I have always put her hair up and never had a problem, so I dont really know if I believe that.

My 17 month old daughter has been pulling her hair out. I guess it's supposed to be a comfort thing. I've also heard it can be stress related. But my girl was tugging on her hair when she was nursing, or tired. So, I shaved it yesterday in hopes that by the time it grows back, she will have outgrown the habit. Now she looks like she did when she was 8 months old. But we're both happy!

This happened to my sister. She was older, though about 8. At school she'd wrap her hair around her pencil and she did it so much eventually it just fell out. It all grew back in though! Maybe when your daughter's going to sleep she twirls or tugs on that patch of hair. My mom took my sis to the doc and he told her it's called trichotillomania, the compulsion to pull out your hair. The doc didn't prescribe any medicine for it, and it never happened again. I'd still take her to the doc just to make sure she's not having some kind of weird reaction to something.

Hi T., First make sure that she didn't get it caught in something, then get her to a doctor. When I was little I got mine caught in the monkey bars and pulled out a spot the size of a quarter, amazingly it didn't hurt that much at the time, but Mom noticed it missing later. I found the hair the next day at school (stuck in the metal). Problem is, she is too young to really help with this. Otherwise, I can't really think of any good reason for the hair to be missing. I would get her checked out just to reassure myself.

Dera T.,

There is a condition called Alapacia. Your hair falls out and it looks like a 50 cent piece. If this condition is what she has we sell a baby product that may work well on your daughter.
