Daughter and Scalp Issue

My daughter has Seborrheic Dermatitis of the scalp. The dermatologist gave her medicated shampoo and an oil that I use. My issue is that she will be in summer camp where they will be in the pool or sprinklers at least 3-4 times a week and I'm wondering if the chlorine from the pool will exacerbate the problem. Would anyone happen to have any tips (home remedies, medicated) that may help prevent her scalp from flaking or at least help add moisture to the scalp? Thanks.

My son has the same issue, Seborrheic Dermatitis. I took him to five dermatologists (because his hair was falling out in clumps...bald spots all over his head). We started doing the tar shampoo and all sorts of conventional things. I failed to take a look at alternatives because I panicked. I'm a holistic health nutritionist, so I chilled out I gathered the information I needed to get a handle on this properly. Seborrheic Dermatitis shows up because of an overgrowth of yeast. When it shows up in a child that is so young, it can be traced back to either parent having had yeast problems. It all comes down to diet. Take out diary and gluten. It's a process, but an important one. See this as a gift, because this can lead to huge issues in the future.
If you have any questions about this just let me know.
Good luck!
M.

Ask that your daughter rinse her hair after being in the chlorine. The "dryness" comes from the water evaporating and leaving the chemical on the scalp. Not a big deal for them- they will probably require her to shower off before getting in the pool, so they should be able to have her do the same getting out! She's too little to be responsible for putting on her own oils, but you could also have her wear a hat to keep her from getting too much sun, which can dry out the skin as well. The counselor should be having her put on sunscreen, so you may have your daughter practice rubbing some on her scalp as well!

Hi D'Vashah-
I am not a doctor, but I have read that conventional shampoos have many irritants that can exacerbate a problem.
Not sure about the chlorine, but I would definitely switch shampoos/soap....
I found great products without chemicals on a site ...
check it out and read the information on it. Its great

Hey mom,

I think if anything it would help.

But if your worried about it you can always have her use a swimming cap. this way her hair stays dry.

So many skin problems can be caused by diet. I am a firm believer in you are what you eat. Is it possible she has a dairy, or wheat allergy. It may be worth looking into. Before you put her through expensive allergy testing why not try through process of elimination. Remove dairy from her diet for a while and see if it improves and the same with wheat. There are so many gluten free products today that can be purchased anywhere. Just a guess but it may be worth a try. Good luck!

Good day, have you heard of Melaleuca? Their products are made for issues like yours. I would open an account with me of course...they make a product called Renew and is the best lotion I have ever seen.. I suffered from severe contact dermatitis on my hands and legs that required both oral and ointment perscriptions and now that is all behind me. Couple that with our herbal shampoo and you daughter will be clear all summer. contac me ____@____.com and I would be happy to give you more info. Good luck
